Does anyone know a Neuro at Jax Mayo for essential tremors?

Posted by spclk. (Karen) @spclk, Jun 25 9:16am

I have read a lot of journal articles on Botox in the arm muscles for ET of right hand.

Brought some articles to Neuro who went crazy, telling me this is impossible, it’s a neuro thing not an ‘arm’ thing!!!

Needless to say, I’m looking for another Neurologist.

Has anyone tried this TAPS device? It must work if MC is agreeing to pay. It was over 10K from what I saw in old archived articles.

“Cala TAPS (Transcutaneous Afferent Patterned Stimulation) Therapy for essential tremor (ET) from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): External Upper Limb Tremor Stimulator Therapy L39591. Medicare beneficiaries who qualify under the new coverage guidelines now have access to Cala TAPS therapy to treat their hand tremor.”

TIA,
K

I tried cala trio they told me its not covered by medicare, it worked really well, I had it for 3 months but then I was diagnosed with gastrparesis, and they said I should not wear it since there's no studies proving that it could make gastroparesis, worse, or if it affected the condition at all, very good company, I was disappointed that I had to return, they returned my money right away, I wish insurance would cover it it really would make a difference for people that can't afford it.

Thanks for explaining your issues. They definitely helped.

Did they ever tell you why you got gastroparesis? Were you on GLP-1’s?

I don’t know if you are MC age, but MC just announced they will cover it. I have straight MC w/a supplemental plan, so it shouldn’t cost me a penny.

If my dopey (non-Mayo) Neuro A. Has heard of it, B. Knows how to calibrate it to me, and C. Whether he will order it, I’m hoping to try it. Did your hand/s stop having tremors?

Thanks,
Karen

Hi Karen company helps calibrate for you, over the phone really easy, my Dr didn't know about it either and I printed everything out she filled it out 3 weeks later I got it I had Medicare and now Medicare advantage, but company said its not approved, by medicare,so I made monthly payments, I was never on weight loss drugs, but I got gastroparesis ,maybe I had it and didn't know I had it, I don't know ? But it was a game changer for me really helped with tremors, in my right hand I got 90 minutes of almost tremor free, I used it 3 times a day, my band went out 1 time during the 3 months I had it,it took 3 weeks to get new band I didn't like that since I was so used to not shaking and then had to be 3 weeks without ! but they told me anyone with epilepsy, pace maker, and muscle weakness, is excluded from wearing it. Good luck its a wonderful device

Thank you so much for answering all the questions! Did they ever find the cause of your gastroparesis?

I’m so glad to hear the company will help with the calibrating. Are there papers I should print out and bring with me on Tuesday, 7/2? If so, where do I find them.

The front office staff are so obnoxious in this place, I would never get anything through to doc - except maybe by uploading to the portal. Even then, I have my doubts he would see them.

Again, thanks for your help.

Hi Karen go on cala trio .com Google it paperwork is there to print out, they say my gastroparisis,is idiopathic, means it just happened, but now they say it very mild its my gallbladder that's causing issues, print out paperwork bring to Dr you won't regret it was a game changer for me, I could drink coffee with one had I could write it was amazing, I hope it works as well for you too! Also they have portal that automatically tracks your tremors every time you use it, which you can print and share with dr. Good luck
