Does anyone have experience with a lumpectomy and a breast reduction?

If your tumor is small there is a good chance, there is no lymph node involvement. Your doctor should be doing a Sentinel Node Biopsy (basically blue dye put into the Sentinel 'first node' and if there is no blue dye in it, then it will not have gone into the rest of the lymph nodes). Fingers crossed! (That is done just before your surgery under anesthesia)? Because of the smallness of my tumor there was no need to go the Chemo route. Just a choice between radiation and Anastrozole Therapy which is one of three Estrogen Blockers. Best of luck and the small tumor is a very good start, so try not to worry too much.

Thank you. I've decided not to have the endocrine treatment due to possibly causing cognitive function problems, and I'm going to check out the Radiation equipment and find out how that works. That's what the Mayo Clinic book recommended if you're anxious about what to expect. Thank you for your concern!

I had a lumpectomy of a 4.2 cm ILC mass with a breast reduction/breast lift in the same surgery, with the sentinel node biopsy done immediately prior to breast surgery and reconstruction. Recovery was pretty straightforward, with minimal pain, no drains. I love the results. (Age 69 3/4😉) I had 4 nodes removed with no cancer detected. Did 15 hypofractionated radiation treatments with 7 boosts due to ILC and tissue having too narrow margins. Just started Anastrozole for 5 years. It was the radiation that was hardest due to the follow-up fatigue and blistered nipple from the boosts. All healed and fine a few weeks after radiation was completed. The steroid cream and Silvadene prescriptions and Mepilex Lite dressings made the skin irritation way better & eliminated chafing.

Yes I had the same exact procedure done about a year ago. My advice is to be patient with your body. The most challenging part for me was adjusting to how my new body looked afterwards. My reduction was significant. It was a mental journey for me to get used to looking in the mirror and seeing less of myself. I often feel guilty for being sad about the change that had taken place because I felt I should have been happy that I was able to keep both my breast and walk away with a lift..
Which was very much needed! But I miss my girls... And they were just that my girls! We have been together for a very long time even though they started to point south they were mine. My doctor help me to appreciate that all of my feelings were normal and that I needed time to adjust. Another piece of advice-nothing is perfect. Once the swelling went down I was not happy with the nipple on the cancer breast... In time she was able to fix it and now everything looks good.
Make sure to ask your doctor about using silicone tape. The best thing ever. Once I started healing the incision with itch and it would be irritated. Silicone tape helped with that and helped with the healing process. It's smooths out the incision and it helps it to not keloid. Got it on Amazon and never regretted using it... Hope things work out for the best!

Did your Dr recommend the mepilex?

Yes, my radiation oncologist’s nurse gave me several big sheets of it so that I could cut it out and cover any area of skin that was irritated to cut out the chafing. Instant pain relief! Highly recommend!
