Does anyone find that a type of shoe helps your foot neuropathy?

Posted by lorirenee1 @lorirenee1, Mar 25, 2019

I am on a constant quest for shoes that don't kill my feet due to the neuropathy. I find that Spencos and Wolky shoes seem the best. Are there any other suggestions? Shoes can be just crippling for me. Horrid.

Welcome @pamd1959, I know it must be difficult trying to help your husband when you are also dealing with neuropathy pain. I don't think anyone can answer your question about whether or not neuropathy will get worse over time. There are so many variables that I think we just need to take it a day at a time trying to find whatever gives us some relief. I wonder if you might find the following discussion helpful to support your husband's metastatic prostrate cancer.

You might find the Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy site useful for finding complementary and alternative treatments that might provide you some relief:

Have you seen a neurologist or started any treatments for the neuropathy?

Thank you so much! I will check those links out! Especially the cancer one!
2 herniated discs caused the neuropathy and too much time passed til surgery, so this is the result I’ll live with. It’s better than the alternative.
We travel to Scottsdale for our first appt for the cancer tomorrow.

I wear the “ugly” Crocs. They are wide, have arch support, washable, and available in fun colors or the basics.

Thanks Debbie,

I talked with someone at Skechers and ordered the Go Walk 6 that has the bottom you’re referring to. The suggestion of keeping a towel around to dry them is helpful.

David - I have used nothing but Skechers Ghent up until a trial I’m doing today. I decided I absolutely have to try a sandal for when I go to the pool. I’m not so vain that the black Ghents with socks look awful, but it’s s chore taking them off and putting them on as I go/leave. Yesterday a pair of Skechers Go Walk Sandals arrived, so I will be trying those. They have adjustable straps to hopefully give the ankle and full foot support and control I need to walk and drive safely. I’m hoping the soles/cushion is very close to the Ghent so it’s not a confusing change to my brain/feet/gait. If they help me not get stares from the clueless at our pool who have no idea how something as simple as a shoe is critical in living with PN, then that’s just a bonus!

I just saw a commercial this morning about Dick's retail stores carrying Hokas. We have a Dick's near us. What I plan on doing: next time I'm in the store, I'll check out the Hoka style(s) that they might have on display, try them out in my size to see how they fit. The Hoka website tends to have great sales and they do send info (I'm on their mailing list). When I see what I want, I'll at least then know the size and width for placing an order. I don't place online orders without feeling sure about size/width because I totally abhor the return process.

The ones most recommended for neuropathy are the Hoka 8’s. They are reinforced with a metal strip in the sole.

Thank you for the important tip! Yes, I have seen great reviews on the Hoka 8 even by people without neuropathy or serious foot issues. I'll see if Dick's has it on display. Hokas are overall rather pricey but would be worth it if it checks off all the boxes.😊

I wear Hoka shoes, Sketchers, and OOfas. OOfas has a recovery slipper that is great. I am fortunate enough to still be able to play pickleball and the Sketchers pickleball shoes are stable and cushioned enough.

I too use HOKA sneakers. This is my second pair. I think their the best sneakers for my foot pain. They are true to size and seem to be well designed and built. They are not cheap. They go for around $165.00 but I think they are worth it. If you buy them on Amazon, I think they are returnable for a different size or money refunded.

I like Clark's Cloudsteppers. My feet feel almost normal in them. I especially like their flip-flops because they are adjustable. Clark's are a little expensive, but last a long time and sometimes they have good sales.

Hokas Clifton 9's help but its a $145 help Usually a loose-fitting shoe, What I find is the slippage irritates the souls of my feet

This thread has been very helpful. I learned about shoes I'd never even heard of before. Of course, the more I read, the dizzier I got. It felt something like wandering the dry cereal aisle at the supermarket. 🙂 But I took notes. And, wanting to try at least one of the brands I found mentioned here, I've ordered a reasonably priced pair of Skechers Performance Go Walk Arch Fit - Idyllic (that's quite a mouthful!). I'm lucky in that my PN doesn't give me foot pain; it just messes with my balance and gait. I've been wearing Nunn Bush. They're comfortable, but I can't say that they do much for my balance and gait. Thank you, all, who've been posting here! –Ray (@ray666)

Brooks and Dansko are two other good brands.
