Does any of us notice any reaction between anti-histamine and BPH?

I woke this morning at 5 with a swollen tongue. It was twice as thick as normal. I can't recall eating or drinking anything out of the ordinary for me except a 1/3 shot of orange flavored whiskey before dinner, measured in a small shot glass. Fifteen hours later my tongue is still thicker than normal. The last time this happened I had eaten a little bit of crab in a sushi roll. That was years ago and I have steered clear of crab ever since.

I decided to stop by a pharmacy to get some liquid Benadryl just in case my tongue decided to swell up again tonight. One of the warnings is if you have BPH and restricted urine flow you should consult your pharmacist or doctor. The reason given is "Benadryl, a first-generation antihistamine, can worsen urinary symptoms in men with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by causing urinary retention." Aargh.

I guess urinary retention is not as bad as suffocation. At least I'd be able to drive to the ER if I could not urinate.

Any of you guys have any experience with this? Today is the first time I have heard of it.

My urologist said men with BPH should avoid antihistamines. It worsens symptoms by tightening the prostate

75 year old male here. Had trouble sleeping for years. I was prescribed hydroxyzine which enlarged my prostate making it difficult to pee getting up during the night 6 times. Took 2 years to get over that. I was prescribed 50 trazodone but I was still waking up at 3-4am. Told to double it to 100 but it made me very unsteady on my feet. A danger getting up during the night to pee.

I now take 4 grams of glycine, 25 mg trazodone, 50 mg of Apigenin. The glycine really helped with pee frequency as well as sleep. Bedroom temp lowered to 67 from 70.

Currently able to get 5 to 7 hours of sleep, still trying for at least 7.

Hope my experiences help others
