Do you mind if I share some good news about myself?
I am recovering from a stroke.
Yesterday, I was invited to give a talk at TCU (Texas Christian University) here in Fort Worth to talk about my recovery experience to a group of graduate students.
It went pretty well, and I had fun, though it was exhausting! The students were attentive and curious.
I forgot to press Record at the start, so I only got the last 40 minutes of audio, but it's here if you'd like to have a listen. Feel free to share the link with others.
Here's hoping I can find more opportunities to share my experiences.
Thanks!

@scottrl WHAT AN HONOR FOR YOU! Wow. Do you have a connection with TCU?
Actually, I have no personal connection at all.
Someone who'd seen my self-produced videos about my recovery referred me to someone at TCU.
I was quite surprised and flattered when TCU contacted me, to be honest.
My recovery videos are here, in case anyone's interested (each is about 5 minutes long):

Congratulations!
That's the way to make some lemonade when life gave you lemons!

Wow, I am impressed! I would absolutely hire you to do narration. I know this is only audio, but just listening to audio, I would never know you had a stroke. I can't understand why talk to text can't understand you. Your voice is wonderful and crystal clear!!! You have a great attitude! Independence is everything and I'm so glad you're regaining it bit by bit. Your determination and achievements are inspiring and heartwarming. You were given the gift of gab, charisma and would make a great teacher. Glad you're enjoying doing talks. You're so lucky to have a great wife supporting you. That makes all the difference. Thanks for sharing your challenges and triumphs with us. Your story is in the early chapters with more achievements to come. Prayers for your ongoing recovery and ability to recapture your joy in life. 🙂
Thank you so much!
I have learned that my recovery story is really a love story. My wife works so hard for us because she loves me, so the least I can do is work equally hard at recovering because I love her.
Plus, I thank God every day for bringing her into my life!
Scott, that really is a great love story. It shows why it’s so valuable to go through life as a team so you can motivate and support each other. A burden shared is a burden halved. A joy shared is a joy doubled.
Suddenly, the image of a three-legged race just popped into my head. With marriage, you both have one free leg to bring your uniqueness and strengths into the relationship, but you only move forward when the legs tied together (marriage) move in lock step. You two are both moving the other forward. Your team is in the lead! 🙂
Thank you Scott. I am so proud of you. This was a blessing and I am sure you had a captive audience and you helped & encouraged people. God uses our maladies and trials in life so that we can help others that go through the same thing. God Bless you and praying for you & your wife.
Thank you. Prayers help!

I like the there-legged stool
concept. I also like the “three-fold cord”... YOU, YOURS, and GOD. The three fold cord is very difficult to break.
@scottrl
Very commendable that your out there educating people about stroke. There are so many misconceptions regarding our various health issues. You look and sound so natural. I have a hard time talking about my nemesis Epilepsy. I feel like a blithering idiot in front of a group. Im sure your videos will be a great help to many.
Blessings,
Jake
