Do I have time to wait before a atpical ductal Hyperplasia excision?

I was told yesterday I have Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia. I want to make an informed decision on which route to go. Can I put an excision off for a couple of months.

Agree. My tumour was tiny and not detectable- hiding behind the nipple. But it was removed within a week of my mammogram and ultrasound. Turned out to be very aggressive. If I'd waited three months, it would likely have spread.

Thank you ..im going forward. Did you have to have radiation or any follow up after the excision

I was just diagnosed with ADH. I had my surgery a week ago and everything was removed. I’m meeting with an oncologist next week to discuss next steps. Medication was mentioned as a possible preventative treatment. Is anyone currently on a preventative treatment program? How’s it working for you? Thanks.

@goldenlove2, do you know that name of the medication that is being suggested for you?

No, not yet. I meet with my doctor on Friday. I’m concerned with side effects I keep hearing about. I’m going through menopause now and to have my current symptoms amplified worries me.

@chitown, how did the consult go? May I ask what decisions you made or are pondering?

Just had a second consult.
I have chosen to have the excision sooner than later.
I had time to get second opinions.

Take the time to be informed about Atypical Ductal Hyperplasia, and speak to health care providers that you have chemistry with.

Just had the bilateral lumpectomy today, actually. Will likely get a second opinion regardless of the results. Consult gave me the confidence to move forward. Thank you for following up!

@goldenlove2, keep in mind that everyone is different. Many people have only mild or no side effects.

That’s what I’m hoping for. 😊. My doctor prescribed Raloxifene. I’ll start on Monday.
