Do I have sciatic nerve pain or is it something else?

I’ve never experienced sciatic nerve pain, so I have no idea if this is what I have, but I am also pushing 40(F), so maybe it’s just something that comes with age. One week ago I started getting a sharp momentary pain in my thigh that occurred every couple minutes. I used a heating pad and it went away. It’s back now, but the pain is worse and starting to spread down my leg. It’s also lasting a few seconds longer. It’s not a specific spot, just feels like my whole thigh. I haven’t noticed anything specific to trigger it, so there’s no warning. No swelling or redness that I can tell.

I experience pain suddenly like that in my thigh also. I had a Cortizone shot in L4 because they found a pinched nerve and bulging disc there. The pinched nerve seems to be what’s causing the shooting pains. I also found that she helped. But there is some movement exercises that help me relieve the pinching of the nerve.

There’s not enough information to diagnose anything. If it continues, I suggest you go to a doctor. When it starts keeping you up at night and causes you pain when you turn from side to side, I might suspect it comes from your lumbar spine and radio frequency ablation might help you. For right now you should try to find a good MFR therapist myofascial tissue release therapist who will realign your muscles and bones and help you diagnose and feel better.

If you suspect a nerve injury, or something serious, see a doctor.
If you are experiencing any symptoms of a blood clot, seek emergency care.

One idea -- see if using a tennis ball (or another firm ball) as a roller on your butt helps. The piriformis muscle crosses the sciatic nerve there and can lead to localized or referring pain.

I'm sorry you're having pain, it's possible it could be sciatica, but I'd get checked out.
I thought I read something about pain in your back. If that was the case, I was thinking you could be passing a kidney stone.

I hope you get some answers. God bless!
