Anyone have experience or advice about diverticulosis bleeds?

I had diverticulitis several years ago - a "contained perforation in the large intestine". I was also in the hospital for 5 days on heavy antibiotics. A couple months after the hospitalization, after the infection was under control, they went in and removed 8" of my colon/large intestine (not a pleasant surgery!).

Haven't had a problem since, tho. Surprised they're saying there's nothing they can do. Time for a 2nd opinion?

@mb: I'm sorry you had to go through this; I know from experience how uncomfortable this is so I welcome you to this forum with empathy for the condition, although I myself never experienced symptoms to the degree of requiring hospitalization as my symptoms were resolved with a combination of medications.

There is a difference between diverticulosis, outpockets of bulges within the intestines and diverticulitis - when these pouches become inflamed to various degrees and extents often times requiring more extensive intervention. Many cases of diverticulitis are considered acute, meaning people have a flare of this condition; sometimes it can change to what is considered complicated diverticulitis if abscess, perforation or other associated complications occur. Conversely, it may be classified as chronic relapsing in nature. The course of action is likely dependent upon how your case is considered. While many people with complicated diverticulitis would benefit from surgical intervention, such a course of action may not be necessary for those in the latter group.
