Diet after Thyroidectomy? How long will I need a soft food diet?

Posted by trosborn21 @trosborn21, Jan 22 7:37pm

I have my thyroidectomy March 5th… I heard that I will have trouble eating and a soft food diet for the first week will be recommended. Can anyone verify that information ?

I had my thyroid removed in two surgeries, 90 days apart. There was minimal pain swelling etc, but sometimes anesthesia affects your body and they always recommend a few days of a soft food diet. Especially as constipation can happen after surgeries. I did not have much of an appetite the first few days,
so simple things to eat were good.. such as pudding, eggs. Soups, toast , oatmeal, warm drinks and a protein shake were my go to.
Hope your surgery goes well!
