Did you see considerable improvement in your MAC after a lobectomy?
My 81 year old has been suffering with MAC since September 2024. We just started our journey with Mayo Clinic. We are excited and encouraged. Lobectomy is on the table now and I’m curious if anyone with MAC has had a lobectomy, and did you see considerable improvement?

@lorettarichardson59 Hello, I am glad you found your way to our group, and to Mayo Clinic.
Can you tell us a little about your journey so far - what treatments and medications have you tried, what damage is in your lungs?
My 81 year old husband developed MAC infection a year ago. Our local infectious disease doctor treated him with 3 antibiotics for three months. Then the next three months with IV infusions. He was getting worse so I contacted Mayo Clinic. He has severe Cavitary MAC infection in his right upper lobe. We have just been at Mayo the last week for a series of tests to determine if he qualifies and can tolerate a lobectomy. We are waiting for review of those tests and some direction as to the route we are going. In addition to the MAC he has COPD, diabetes, psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. All those medications seem to fight against each other.
Oh my, he has a lot going on. I hope the docs can find some solution. Lobectomy is major surgery, but he is in the best hands.
