Diapers day and night

Posted by grandmart @grandmart, 1 day ago

My bladder leakage is causing me trouble when I go out especially when visiting. I take a pad to sit on so as not to leak on furniture. Can anyone help my anxiety?

Hi,
I have the same problem as you do. My incontinence has increased a lot. I wear two large Poise pads. I put toilet paper on top of them. That way I only have to change the toilet paper for most of the day. When I do go somewhere I try and drink less liquids but not to the point of being dehydrated. That's a good idea about taking a pad to sit on. I might consider doing that. I have noticed that even with just sitting a while I leak a lot. I have found that it's easier to deal with this if I shop close to my house or a store with a public bathroom; although I hate using public bathrooms! I always carry extra pads in my purse.

There was a procedure for this that I had done some years ago. It worked great! I didn't leak for quite a few years but then it started again. I went back to the same doctor and she said they don't use that procedure anymore. She suggested a couple other procedures but also stated they didn't always work a lot of the time. She said that I might just want to "live with it." So, I am. I'm 78 so I don't have the social life that I had when I was younger and my husband was still alive. I stay home a lot and that makes it easier.

I also pray about this a lot and it seems to have gotten somewhat better. God is always there for us. We just have to ask.
I wish you the best and will say a prayer for you.

@grandmart welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. I can relate to this. I have issues like this myself. Personally all I can suggest is the biggest, “badest” incontinence product underwear (such as Depends etc.) &/or heavy duty menstrual pads you can find plus hospital grade pads that you can sit &/or lay on to protect furniture and bedding. Another helpful tool is a book on incontinence available from Mayo Clinic Press. It describes many kinds of incontinence and has suggestions for treatment and ways of dealing with it. I recommend going from least to greatest amount of intervention depending on the type you have plus how bad it is.

@grandmart Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! It must be embarrassing, and it's so personal, isn't it? Have you talked to your doctor about this concern? It would be interesting to see what they have to say. I know that all of us, men and women, seem to have some concerns as we get older because our muscles just get older, too. My husband has this concern and he finds it so embarrassing. Let me know what you think about checking with your doctor for possible solutions.

I had to chuckle/toilet tissue cause it works for a while. Due to using a walker, oxygen day & night is even more difficult to get around with padding between my legs. Of course extra diapers TENA large is the best fit. Sleeping on my back because of the oxygen is good for a diaper and no leaks. Baby powder each change & vaseline for any red spots. I guess we should be glad we can still pee hahaha and a prayer for you.

Grandmart, you might see a gynecologist. There are bulking agents that prevent leakage. It is a twenty minute procedure that might be available to you. There are several different product. The latest:

I also have similar bladder issues, and have spent so much on Tena pads.
Need to wear them day and night, and am afraid to go out without taking several pads with me in case I leak through.
I attribute this issue to my CIDP,as it’s gotten worse over the years.
