diagnosed with SSC after it is metastatic & advanced?

My family member was just diagnosed last week. It originated on back of tongue. It has metastasized to neck. It a large mass on his neck/face. It is spreading to the back of neck now. He doesn't even see oncology for another 2 weeks. PET and biopsies have all been done. They called a few days ago with results. Does he even have a chance? I'm terrified!
