Laryngeal chondrosarcoma recurrence: Anyone had total laryngectomy?
I have been diagnosed with a laryngeal chondrosarcoma which is uncommon in location in which the tumor is growing (behind my left vocal cord). I underwent surgery 2 years ago to de bulk the tumor; however there has since been a reoccurrence and a new tumor is growing. It is classified as a low grade tumor and is not causing problems with breathing or swallowing at this time. One option that has been discussed is a total laryngectomy, I’m just wondering if anyone has been presented with this treatment and if you sought a second opinion about laryngectomy.
Thanks 🙏

Jane, sorry to hear about the recurrence. I'm sure you're not excited about having to face surgery again. If you'd like to consider a second opinion with Mayo Clinic experts, you can submit a request here: http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
Have you made a decision about getting a total laryngectomy?
Thank you very much for the support information. I am currently under the care of 2 surgeons at the University of New Mexico Hospitals who are taking my case to a tumor board as it’s such a rare type of tumor. Based on what I learn after this, I may seek a second opinion at Mayo regarding surgery.
