Dermal melanoma

Posted by llray @llray, Jan 27, 2023

My husband had a melanoma removed froyone m is abdonimal area. 3 months later during his skin check, the dermatologist noticed satellite spread around his scar. Had second surgery but it came back again. We then went up to Mayo and he has had radiation treatment.
Anyone else had similar experience?

Hello, I am very sorry about what’s going on, I know first hand how difficult melanoma can be. How is he doing after his radiation ? My husbands is a bit different than yours but has reoccurred as well. His is nodular and was on the back of his neck. Surgery was in Nov and he now has it in a node in his neck. The pet scan was done after the surgery which seems sloppy to me , and they found the node, having surgery again in 2 weeks and then Keytruda for a year which is a concern. Is your husbands cancer rated as aggressive? I hope not, ours is but praying for a good outcome.

Oh thank you Coleen . He had the cancerous lymph node removed on Monday and he will be starting Keytruda in a few weeks, we are a bit nervous about that, I am doing ok but having a great deal of back pain and am having a thoracic MRI tomorrow. Dr. believes as I do that it’s a compression fracture. I have osteoporosis and in the midst of changing to a new Endocrinologist . Thank you!

I sympathize with you and your husband. My husband's is very aggressive. Its like a monster that just keeps coming back. Where is your husband having his therapy? He just had another body check and where he had radiation, the melanoma is back.. He was clear Dec. 30 and middle of January already positive again! Very discouraged and depressed. He sleeps a lot. We are going up to Mayo Clinic March 2 to discuss another option. The Keytruda caused him to have mouth sores, Lichenoid Plantus. Ever heard of it? Very painful so they don't want to give him more Keytruda..
We have another friend and Keytruda was successful for him.
I hope your husbands surgery is successful. And I hope Keytruda works for him. Keep me posted!
I'll be praying and thinking of you.
I'm scared and upset. But I have to act positive for him. I have support from my sisters. Do you have anyone to lean on?

Oh no I am so sorry to hear this, I was really hoping that he was doing better. I understand completely how you are feeling. We are in Naples Florida and our oncologist is with Florida Cancer. We do have Moffit Cancer in Tampa if we need them., His big surgery was in November, his was nodular 2B. This surgery was a lymph node this past week and Keytruda will start in a few weeks. I am so sorry that happened to your husband with Keytruda and I appreciate you sharing that with me. We are worried of course. I like you try to shield him from my fear…

I have many close friends close by thankfully ..and support from my sister too,. I will be praying for you both. Where are you located?

Hoping he will have no problems with Keytruda. My husband also suffers from Multiple Sclerosis which I think contributed to his mouth sores and being a poor candidate for Keytruda therapy. We have a friend that also had melanoma and he is now cancer free after the Keytruda therapy. I think it is a wonderful treatment and I wish my husband could use it. I hope it will be your husbands solution.
We live in Peoria Illinois. We drive about 6 hours to Mayo for treatment. Both his local oncologist and dermatologist strongly recommended us to travel up there. Mayo is wonderful but it is a drive and about a 3 day minimum because I can't drive in the dark.
Please keep me posted about you husband's updates. I truly care and will keep you in my prayers and thoughts.

I am so happy we have connected, we can support each other through this.
I am sorry it’s such a hike to get to the Mayo but I know first hand it’s worth the drive. I was there a week in 2005 in Florida for a blood issue and I am just fine now…. You will be so impressed with them and they will give your husband the best treatment possible. I will be praying for you both. I so appreciate you…..
