Dental implants with W-M

I have W-M, no treatments yet. Does anyone know if dental implants are feasible with this? A little worried about immune response(or lack thereof)..

Interested in more discussions like this? Go to the Blood Cancers & Disorders Support Group.

Whether or not to have dental implants with WM (a form of non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma) would be a discussion to have with your oncologist and oral surgeon. Some medical conditions such as uncontrolled diabetes, cardio issues, autoimmune disorders, smoking, etc., can impact the healing of dental implants. Other factors to consider would be poor bone density, medications such as chemotherapy or immunosuppressants.

Though you mentioned you’re not undergoing any chemotherapy treatment currently or taking any immunosuppressants. Usually the complications become more of a concern with chemo treatments. Your doctors may feel it’s fine to go ahead with the implants.

Pub Med has results of a study of dental implants with immuno compromised patients. It looks favorable.

Doctors will consider other factors of course and take into consideration your overall health in making the decision with you. Do you have any issues with healing? How extensive are the implants? One or more teeth?

Thank you for the response! I usually heal very fast. Have no teeth - need full mouth done. I don't have any other issues such as rheumatoid arthritis or Crohn's disease and am in excellent health. Quit smoking over 3 yrs ago, Don't drink, good diet. I take meds for prostate and elevated bp, that's it.

My doctor didn’t let me move forward with the implants. I’m kinda glad the chemo made me mouth so sore with the thrash and periodically with sores not sure if that’s a great environment for healing gums post implant
