Dent in my calf after a fall help

Posted by samanthawagner14 @samanthawagner14, Jul 26, 2022

Hello, a couple nights ago I was trying to walk down my porch and I got my foot caught in the last step and fell forward. I barely got myself up and in bed, now I have stinging, electric pain in my leg and it’s slowly bruising badly. My mom thinks the fluid in my leg got pushed upwards and that’s why the dent it there but I don’t know why it hasn’t fixed itself yet? Can anyone tell me what’s up with this? Will I need surgery? I’m terrified of surgery.

Hello @samanthawagner14 and welcome to Connect. It sounds like you had a frightening fall.

I think it is way too early to be thinking about surgery, however, you do need to see a doctor right away and have this injury evaluated. Do you have a primary care doctor or is there an Urgent Care facility nearby?

At Mayo Connect we aren't medical professionals, just patients who offer support and encouragement. Therefore, we can't diagnose or tell you what is wrong with your leg. So, please see a doctor as soon as possible.

Will you get back with me and let me know what the doctor has to say?

I have an already scheduled dr appointment on the 28th, I couldn’t take any days off before then… will I be making things worse for waiting? I’m just scared my leg will be permanently messed up now

@samanthawagner14

You should call your doctor's office and ask them this question. Perhaps they can give you some advice. Is there an Urgent Care or a Walk In Clinic where you can be seen?

Hi @samanthawagner14, I did the same thing to my shin about 5 years ago. I was walking in the dark between two parked vehicles and tripped over the tow hitch The dent stayed for over a year. My doctor told me that I hit it so hard that I damaged the muscle tissue in my leg and that it was going to take quite a while to heal. Now that was my situation, so yours could be different.
There is a discussion surrounding leg muscle dents, but I wanted to leave your post separate from this one since your dent was caused by a fall.
You can read it here though:

I hope you get good news at the doctors office tomorrow. Let us know the outcome.
