The best close-to-inoculation against dementia is Meaningful friendships. This is what I gleaned from years of researching this field of the epidemic of loneliness...different than solitude which we must cherish to grow into true adulthood, not just accumulating years, which too often happens to lot of us.
I still tirelessly work each day to find those few friends whom I would want to talk, share, listen to, and laugh with, and grieve with. I just found 'Keeping Connected' organization today for phone connection to give it a try. Life is perpetual search...otherwise it may get too boring.
Are you having any symptoms? Have you seen your primary to discuss this, he/she can direct the next steps! Wishing you the best.
Yes I have symptoms and yes I saw my primary who sent me to a specialist who wanted to do research and probably with drugs so I refused to be a guinea pig.
Hi Tilou,
I have gone to a plant-based diet because I was noticing forgetfulness and short-term memory loss. I don't blame you for not wanting to be a guinea pig.
If I may suggest, you might find some answers on the NIH (National Institute of Health) website they have tons of medical research article on dementia. Type key words in the search box and articles will pop-up. I'm, also, reading, The Alzheimer's Solution by Drs. Dean and Ayesha Sherzai, M.D. and trying to in cooperate better health choices into my lifestyle. Let us know how you are getting along.
From Surgeon General's Advisory, 2023: Our Epidemic of Loneliness and Isolation: The U.S. Surgeon General’s Advisory on the Healing Effects of Social Connection and Community, (82 pages long) the following I found:
"Cognitive Function Substantial evidence also links social isolation and loneliness with accelerated cognitive decline and an increased risk of dementia in older adults, (10,41) including Alzheimer’s disease. (163) Chronic loneliness and social isolation can increase the risk of developing dementia by approximately 50% in older adults, even after controlling for demographics and health status.

Yesterday's efforts for social connection did not bear fruit; I'm trying another, on "Death Cafe" tomorrow. What else the choice?
And in women... hormone replacement.
