Decipher Score Sample

Posted by hibernianstpat @hibernianstpat, 2 days ago

I am new and worried, Question about Decipher Sample findings,

Age 72. I had a PSA 4.6. I had a biopsy and 1 carcinoma was found (Gleason 7, 3+4). Doctor sent the 1 sample for Decipher test and it was 4.6. Would the size of the sample have any bearing on the high score?

Thank you for all your help!

Since the decipher score has a maximum of one yours must’ve been .46.

Yes, the sample size of tumor tissue obtained during a biopsy or prostatectomy directly affects the accuracy and reliability of the Decipher prostate cancer test. A larger, higher-quality sample is crucial for a more robust and accurate genomic analysis.

Thank you for the excellent follow-up! I am especially glad you caught the mistake I made on Decipher score.
The doctor notified me verbally that it was .65.
To be honest I’m a worrier and I don’t deal well with medical issues. Thanks Again Mr. Marchi.

It is important when you have questions to contact your medical providers. Rather than worry about something check to see if you have the correct information. Your medical doctor specialist are best to give you your specific information. I have leared to asked questions and if not sure what or still confused get a second opinion.

When numbers are given or written down I see many times the . period is in the wrong spot. It is why when I post a number from a test I do not put a period on the right side of the number.

I am a proponent of the Decipher test. I had a intermediate risk level given to me from Gleason Score. My R/Os recommended Decipher and even though I had no idea at the time what is was I got one. My risk level from the Decipher test was low risk downgraded from intermediate from biopsies.

The Gleason score can be subjective as you are comparing the looks of cells to normal cells. The Decipher test is a genetic type test. After my Decipher came back my treatment recommendation went from radiation and hormone to radiation only.

From the nightmares I have read on MCC I am very glad I did not need to have hormone treatments. If you are not familiar with hormone treatments WED MD has an execellent article on it this month. Basically it starves the hormone that prostate cancer feeds on so inhibits growth of cancer so what every treatment you are having is benefited by the inhibition of the cancer.

This comes from my urologist, R/Os, and my PCP not from me as any inferecnce I have a medical professional backgound. Asked questions you are just starting your journey with this. The treatment options are going to be quite expansive so you need to be asking questions and again alway cosider a second opinion.

I was considered intermediate after my biopsy at 3 + 4 and I was slated for active surveillance, then my Decipher came back at 0.68, aggressive, and this prompted treatment. Your diagnosis sounds nearly identical to mine, you should talk to several doctors and ask them what they think for your age and test results.

No, and I hope that isn't in my future.

My Decipher is .63 high risk. RO recommends adt along with radiation. I think I will forgo the adt.

It’s your decision, but my understanding is that ADT is necessary to weaken the tumor prior to radiation for it to work properly. The downside risk is that you would be put on lifelong ADT if the tumor recurrs vs. 6-12 months now (assuming you are Gleason 7).

Can't blame you. You could go on adt for a max of 4 to 6 months. It shrinks the tumor and stops metastasis. But even for a few months it isn't fun. Interesting, though

I’ve had the Decipher and Artera test. They are at odds. Decipher is .63 (high risk) and recommending ADT. Artera indicates I’m at low risk (2.1%) of metastasis in 10 years. Not sure which one should guide my decision?
