DCIS surgery thru nipple: How did you take off the strips easily?

Posted by sue417 @sue417, Dec 25, 2023

Hi
Wondering if anyone else has had DCI s removed through the nipple being removed. It has been 10 days and I am supposed to take the starry strips off. I tried and almost passed out . So how do you take them off by soaking them? I have visible stitches which are Dissolvable. Not sure if I should wet them. Wearing a tega Term dressing to shower.

Yes, soak them with a warm washcloth. It's ok if they stay on longer. They should remove easily; be gentle and resoak if necessary.

Leave the steri strips in place for now.

Don't you have a follow up appointment with your surgeon? I had a follow up at three weeks and they were removed by the Physician Assistant. If you don't have a follow up - if it were me - I would leave them alone but let them get wet in the shower each day, drying with a clean towel afterward. Eventually they will gently come off by themselves.

Also, you probably don't need the tegaderm any more. I had the same procedure and was just gentle with that area - switched shower sprayer to the softest flow - patted on some soap there and around the breast and arm pit, and very gently rinsed. Used a clean wash cloth each time to dry that area.

Hope you are ok - I almost passed out just reading your story! 🙂

Hi
They came off . I do not see my surgeon until January 16th. And they told me to make sure they were off after 10 days. They came off at 15.
