Damaged my shoulder tendons about 10 years ago

I didn’t realize that the damage to my shoulder was very bad. This was about 10 years ago. It seems that I adapted and continued to use the arm as best as I could. I learnt how not to hurt my arm during exercising. A recent MRI was done and the damage is torn up tendons. Surgeon recommended reverse shoulder replacement. I am 71 and don’t play golf. Could I continue to live my life without surgery. My pain is tolerable without too much medications. Any thoughts, experiences ?

Interesting idea but it is the muscles of the scapula that lost their tendon connection. I have more use of my arm than many in my circumstance but can't raise it up except when I slide off a tall horse. Seems like I should be able to raise it at least passively. I ask two ortho surgeons and my PT doc why it wouldn't go up and got 3 different answers. (And the surgeons had seen the MRI). This did not inspire confidence. But the MRI was done then I need to look at it now, me thinks Good advice.
