Cyst on Pancreas?

Posted by faithann64 @faithann64, Feb 25, 2021

So recently i had a CT Abdomen Pelvis w/ Contrast and they found a cystic structure to arise on the Pancreas . Said it could represent a serous/mucinous neoplasm. Anyone knows what that means ??? Thank You. ( 57 year old male.)

I read all the post's on Pancreatic Cancer and treatments etc. Even though my cyst was found because of something else . I'm glad,,, don't get me wrong. Even though it might be nothing ? I'm just in the beginning stages of them figuring out what it is ?? But unfortunately it shouldn't be there at all. So my thinking is my journey is just getting started . I've had stomach problems for years , especially with acid reflux, gerd , diarrhea, vomiting , and other stomach issues over the years. I had hiatal hernia and the nissen wrap done almost 2 years ago with still have allot of problems. The only good thing that came out of it is no more heartburn !!! I feel like with all those years of dealing with those issues something is bound to show up. Hopefully this cyst on my pancreas is nothing and this journey ends, but something tells me it's just the beginning. My heart goes out to all of you that hasta to deal with this on a daily basis . God Bless you all. Male 56yrs.

I did speak with my Surgeon's office today ( Nurse ) . He did my Hiatal Hernia repair and Nissen Fundoplication almost 2 years ago . Been seeing him on and off for swallowing problems . I went to ER because of migraine & stomach pain and they did the CT Scan .. The nurse told me he did look over the results and didn't act to concerned ?? She was going to talk with him ? When i seen him earlier this month he talked about doing upper endoscopy . She stated that she would let me know ???

Hello @faithann64,

I can certainly understand your concern about being diagnosed with this type of pancreatic cyst. Was the CT scan done because you were having symptoms of some sort? Are there plans to do an Endoscopic Ultrasound in the near future or some other testing?

I have numerous pancreatic cysts that are monitored and have not changed over the years but I know how disconcerting it is to have anything wrong with your pancreas.

Will you post again and let me know how you are doing?

In 2012 I was told I had a cyst on the head of my pancreas, biopsy showed it was non cancerous but still needed to have whipple surgery.
After the whipple was preformed the pathology report came back and showed it was pancreatic cancer, early detection is key. It's been a bumpy ride but it's been over 9 year and I'm still here enjoying life. I was 60 when first diagnosed.

I just seen the results today on my patient portal. My reg family Doctor decided to quit her practice last week so i'm looking for another family Doctor. I did message my Gastrologist Doctor today and told them to look at results . Waiting to hear back from them. Calling Hospital tomorrow to see if i can talk with Radiologist Doctor who read the results and wrote the report.

Sounds like a logical approach!

I am going to assume you will be referred to a surgeon asap. It sounds like you may have a tumor that can possibly be cancerous. Your own doctor should be relaying this information to you! Note I said “possibly”. Not definitely. That is why you need to see someone who specializes in such diagnostics and perhaps surgery for biopsy.

N.B. A tumor is something that grows where it doesn’t “belong”, in medical talk. Doesn’t necessarily equal cancer! But obviously a further investigation needs to be done!
