Cyst on Pancreas?

Posted by faithann64 @faithann64, Feb 25, 2021

So recently i had a CT Abdomen Pelvis w/ Contrast and they found a cystic structure to arise on the Pancreas . Said it could represent a serous/mucinous neoplasm. Anyone knows what that means ??? Thank You. ( 57 year old male.)

In 2012 I was told I had a cyst on the head of my pancreas, biopsy showed it was non cancerous but still needed to have whipple surgery.
After the whipple was preformed the pathology report came back and showed it was pancreatic cancer, early detection is key. It's been a bumpy ride but it's been over 9 year and I'm still here enjoying life. I was 60 when first diagnosed.

I just seen the results today on my patient portal. My reg family Doctor decided to quit her practice last week so i'm looking for another family Doctor. I did message my Gastrologist Doctor today and told them to look at results . Waiting to hear back from them. Calling Hospital tomorrow to see if i can talk with Radiologist Doctor who read the results and wrote the report.

Sounds like a logical approach!

I am going to assume you will be referred to a surgeon asap. It sounds like you may have a tumor that can possibly be cancerous. Your own doctor should be relaying this information to you! Note I said “possibly”. Not definitely. That is why you need to see someone who specializes in such diagnostics and perhaps surgery for biopsy.

N.B. A tumor is something that grows where it doesn’t “belong”, in medical talk. Doesn’t necessarily equal cancer! But obviously a further investigation needs to be done!

Hi! I am a caregiver for a 76 year old man who had gall bladder surgery and developed several cysts on his pancreas. Your best source of general info is on the Mayo website...just type in whatever you wnt want to know and you will find lots of info on pancreatic cysts. Gary went thru scans to determine if they needed to be removed via the Whipple procedure. It was determined by his gastro dr. and the pancreatic surgeon that one needed to be removed. It was a long process but NO cancer. He is fine today and out on the boat!
My advice....read all you can, find the best drs. in your area, go see them now! Relax! It may be nothing. Gary has 2 more cysts that are being watched and may do nothing.
If you are in FL I can give you good places to start. Just do it cuz Pancreatic cancer moves very fast...you have to be faster!

@faithann64 I am going to bring in @wrolsen who has recently shared information about having a pancreatic cyst so the pair of you can connect.

Also, you will notice that I have moved this discussion to the Pancreatic Cancer Group to allow you to connect with members with experiences that may benefit you as you continue to seek answers.

Can you share more about what information/next steps you were left with after receiving the news of a cystic structure on your pancreas?
