Has anyone ever been on Duloxetine (Cymbalta) for nerve pain?
Has anyone ever been on Duloxetine (Cymbalta) for nerve pain? I've had 2 doctors push this on me. I know that the side effects can be terrible and getting off of it difficult as it requires titration. One time I remember taking one pill, and not liking the way it made me feel, so not taking any more, and still feeling the "weirdness" from it 2-3 days later. and that was only 30 mg Please pass along any experience or advice from this medication?

I was on hydrocodone , Gabapentin and Duloxetine and take Sunosi to keep me awake which doesn’t help! I stopped the hydrocodone to see if the worthless pain stimulator was helping( nope it was actually causing pain enough that we discussed adding a second one for the sacrum) . I’ve taken Gabapentin 100mg morning and 300 mg at night for a couple years. I couldn’t tolerate stronger because of sleepiness. Withdrawals weren’t bad then 2 weeks later pain doc had me stop Duloxetine I was taking 60 mg and still had some 30 mg stool a 30 mg a couple nights. I noticed withdrawals were diarrhea got that and I’ve had Tinnitus but after reducing the pills I have now stopped them but now have a new sound that’s hard to explain kind of like a ch ch ch . If pain comes back he discussed a causal epidural or after that a pain pump. If you have a stimulator and have unexplainable headaches ( I was hospitalized 5 days for temporal headaches that they couldn’t figure out I came home and turned the stimulator off and the headaches went away so keep this in mind
I just was tapered off it in 4 weeks by my pain management doctor. I am having terrible withdrawal symptoms. I have missed two weeks of work- don’t trust myself to drive. I was put on it after trying gabapentin, pregabalin, etc. they all made me lethargic and did nothing for neuropathy pain. I was sent to chronic pain management doctor because truly think 🤔 no medical doctors want deal with it. The duloxetine took away my depression and only slightly reduced the pain. Unfortunately I developed intestinal (diarrhea) from it. They sent me to a Gastro specialist as neither me or pain doc thought it was causing diarrhea. Well we were both wrong. Intestinal specialists were right - that went away, but on day 11 of withdrawal and it’s awful! Beware!
I took Cymbalta about 18 years ago. It gave me explosive diareah after about 6 months of taking it. The doctors couldn't figure out why I was having this problem and ordered a colonoscopy. The Gastro doc found nothing wrong and suggested I stop the Cymbalta. I switched medications and it went away.

I was on brand name Cymbalta for 17 years for neuropathy and fibromyalgia (?), brand name only because the generic didn’t help and caused side effects. Eli Lilly stopped making the brand name Cymbalta several months back and I was cut off cold turkey when the pharmacy couldn’t get it anymore. I started taking Alpha Lipoic Acid out of desperation. My every day (not flares) pain level has gone down quit a bit. Coincidence???
On Cymbalta for depression. It helps with my depression. Never heard of it for nerve pain
I am sensitive to glycols but my doctor doesn't seem to believe it. Did you have trouble finding a doctor to prescribe the chemical sensitivity test?
I took 120 mg / day for neuropathy for over 20 years without any negative effects that I knew of. It only partially helped but was better than nothing. A few years ago I stopped cold turkey with only mild symptoms for a few days. Felt a bit ‘out of body’. Stopped it because it had caused gum disease due to dry mouth side effects. So if you due take it, use something to help counteract the dry mouth. My fave is biotine.
@tiggaroo may I ask how much alpha Lipo acid you are taking? After seven years of occasional electrical type pain in upper thigh and tailbone which became constant five years ago with no improvement, I was put on 200 mg of Alphalipoic acid and 400 mg twice a day of magnesium oxide. No improvement in my pain. Just wondered how many milligrams you are taking and how long it took to see the improvement? Thank you!
