Curious about radiation experiences? Pros/Cons?

Curious about radiation experiences… I have low grade serous ovarian, stage 4, a recent PET post surgery and chemo showed there might be activity in my bones. Waiting for bone scan results too. I do have discomfort and pain and have a radiation consult next week but I am curious if anyone has been in a similar place and how it’s gone for them… any word is appreciated! (I am on tamoxifen right now and that’s seems to be going well, almost 3 weeks in and my breathing is better and a funky lymph node has shrunk too).

@keirahaley ask the radiation oncologist about the percentage of risk of either bowel or bladder (or both) incontinence.

I was diagnosed stage 3 endometrial cancer in December 2022. Had surgery, chemo, external beam radiation and brachytherapy in 2023. I wax fortunate to have had an “easy” time with all of it. Fatigue was probably the biggest side effect. The chemo was to address any cells present ( two sentinel lymph nodes were positive) and gge two radiation treatments were targeted to prevent a recurrence in the same area. I’m two years out and have had no other issues. Take care

@aardvark2118 and @keirahaley it wouldn’t hurt to ask what the chances are of developing incontinence. I know of five people - men as well as women - who are now incontinent after radiation for bladder, prostate, ovarian or cervical cancer.

Yes, it is true that fatigue is a big side effect too, but it is not a permanent side effect.

Thankfully I have not had any bowel or bladder issues . They did a good job preparing me to minimize potential fir damage such as having a full bladder fir every treatment

I had my surgery at Sharp Mary birch in San Diego. Had a wonderful surgeon and robotic assisted surgery

@keirahaley Oh, that's only two days away. Do have some questions written down that you plan to ask during the consult? Maybe this Discussion that you started and the Discussion I directed you to will facilitate some questions you could ask.
