I have had Crohn's for over 40 yrs (too) and I will reiterate for the umpteenth time that Low Dose Naltrexone will help over 80% of Crohn's patients. You will have a hard time getting it from your GI doc because it isn't (yet) protocol but you can see from the studies that are posted on the national website, that they are looking at it. I have had to get it from my rheumatologists who are less rigid about medication. It is very benign and worth a try. Please look it up and read about it. Your gut will thank you.
Does he have a stricture or scarring that is causing narrowing of the bowel? If so high fiber, or something that causes a bolus of fiber (like eating an orange or grapefruit with the membrane on) can cause problems. Lower fiber foods, or macerating foods (like making smoothies in a blender) might make sense.
