Creatine

Creatine is recommended for women in the menopause spectrum. Is this safe to take 3-5 mg daily with normal, healthy kidney function?

@kamacasa Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. From research I did, if you have normal kidney function for your age, that amount of creatine can be okay. One thing to be careful of is watching your general health conditions.

Do you have normal kidney function? What are the critical numbers from your lab reports, if I may ask? Also, has your medical team given you the go-ahead to try a creatine supplement, and if so, which one? Also, take into account your other medications and supplements, and diet plan. In my experience, all play a critical part together!

My creatinine and other blood work are within normal limits. I feel good on it and am passing ample amounts of urine and drink ample amounts of water. Yes, I will include my PCP in my plan. Thank you!

This is really obvious as you all probably already know but creatine and creatinine are two different things. Unfortunately they sound similar and have similar spellings. Spell checker doesn’t necessarily know, care or differentiate. Be careful that you’ve chosen the one you intend to use when you post.
