Cracking sounds in skull/brain. Should I be concerned?
I was experiencing a few symptoms as I was laying down on my bed yesterday, falling asleep. The symptoms are still present today:
- Cracking/Clicking sounds AND sensations from the inner center of the brain/skull, it seems.
- As if there is something in there moving/'digging'? Could it be a parasyte?
- Sensation comes and goes, usually lasts a few sec. when it comes.
- More pronounced when laying down I think and when there is no noise around so I can focus on it (maybe thats why I heard it the first time as I was about to sleep, because it was so quiet in my room).
- Wanted to mention this cause it may be connected to the brain/skull stuff -> Last weeks I was feeling some weird sensations in my right ear, as if it was somewhat a little clogged or something, can't really explain it. The day of the incident I didn't really have this symptom with the ear though, only the clicking coming from the CENTER of the inside of the skull.
- Blood pressure and everything is good, I feel good and there are no headaches.
I tried to be as detailed as I could. If anyone knows anything I would appreciate it a lot. How concerned should I be?

@gmarosie I have the same diagnosis, occipital neuralgia plus a subluxation of the atlas. I am just starting PT and your entry gives me hope of help. I have terrible neck pain going into my head with almost every movement but my thrapist is starting me off supine so I am able to do the exercises without much pain. thank you for reporting that help is possible.
Just wanted to come here to comment that I experience the same thing, daily for the last year especially. Its gotten to the point where other people can hear it if they're close to me. So if we have the same thing this is NOT tinnitus. Mine comes with headaches, worse when laying down, and it's very noisy. Almost like a scratching or maybe a ketchup bottle squirting. I've had a ct scan done, an MRI, and I've been given medicines such as gabapentin and quilipta to try and ease the pain and symptoms.
I have a theory, not doctor backed, that it's inflammation in the brain. I'm just waiting for one of my many doctors to hopefully check my spinal fluid.
Have you ever gotten a metallic/saltwater taste in your mouth with a really bad headache as well? I have with these symptoms but the er couldn't find anything emergent.
@tarmansbks
I have been getting myofascial release treatments in my neck and shoulders and this has helped mitigate the rice krispie effect. I still get it occasionally but not as often. It takes a p/t specialist to get this treatment right. Not every p/t can do it. Best wishes in finding relief. I know how annoying it is.
