I am concerned, but no longer mask. I am immunocompromised, but stopped masking this year. I got covid last year despite consistent masking. There are still quite a few still masking in NC, from what I see at the gym, doctor office, stores, etc. I take it that they are receiving cancer treatment.
I think your anxiety is understandable. Will he compromise by at least masking in certain crowded places?
Hi @skullbasecancer4. I’ve seen the uptick on Covid in our state as well. Covid and RSV are concerns for any of us who are immune compromised or the caregiver for caring for someone at risk. Plus, who wants to get sick if we can avoid it, right? I’m with you…I always have a mask with me.
I’d gotten a little less rigid about mask wearing earlier this summer. I took a chance shopping at our local grocery store without a mask when it wasn’t busy. But now that it’s tourist season again, I mask up at the door! Glad I did the other day. At the checkout, a family of 5 pulled their cart up behind me. All of them sounded like they were a walking ad for Musinex! Yikes!! I hustled out of there and tossed my mask in the basket! 😧
It’s up to us to protect ourselves. There will always be a debate about whether or not masks provide protection. And I don’t know why some people, such as your husband who has cancer, won’t wear them. It’s a simple means to avoid spreading or getting germs & viruses. From statics and evidence I follow provided by my transplant team and immunologist at Mayo, masks do make big difference for people who wear them properly. I wear an N-95 mask when shopping, in an elevator, meetings, even at friend’s home if we’re in an intimate setting. We seldom go to restaurants unless we can eat outdoors. Anyone who knows me understands and for those who don’t, I don’t care! What other people think about me is none of my business. LOL.
So even if no one around you bothers to mask, it’s in your best interest to stay healthy, if not for your husband but for yourself too! I have to ask, what’s your husband’s excuse for not masking up?
It has definitely ticked up in North Carolina. I’m immunocompromised and am careful. I mask everywhere indoors. I don’t go all Marine Sgt on maintaining distance but if you get up on my back thinking that will get you through the cashier line faster, I will ask you to back up. I went to Church recently and someone two rows behind me was coughing their head off. I was sitting on the end of the pew so quietly left.
I’m 8 mos since last vaccine dose. I’m trying to make it to the fall vaccine so i can make it through cold weather season with most current formulation.
I know most everyone isn’t this strident. But i had lung cancer a year ago and lost the lower lobe of my left lung. Plus I have RA and take immunosuppressant infusions for that. Plus I'm older than dirt.
I’ve avoided it for four years now - no letup 🙂
I totally understand. I have avoided it too. So frustrating…… stay well
He has no excuse , except that he is over covid . His doctors have told him to live his life . All family and friends are on the same page with him . I live in Florida and no one cares .
No. I get him to wear a mask at doctor offices . Otherwise, he won’t wear one .
How sick were you when you had Covid ? I hope
it was not too bad for you .
I was fully vaxed and boosted. I have type I diabetes. It hit me hard enough to put me down, but not into a hospital last September. I consider it a mild case. However, I now have post covid syndrome, that has caused continued issues that I am still seeking help for (ENT and Neurologist). Thank you for your words.
I hope you get the help
needed . I am so sorry , that it left you with post Covid symptoms. I am
fully vaccinated, but have not had one since last Sept . I fear Covid for me and my husband ,
Does your husband normally take the flu vaccine?
