Does seeking counseling affect future employment opportunities?

I wonder if anyone can share some experience. As I mentioned in this thread (https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/how-to-research-a-counselor-in-georgia/), I'm confused about this topic.
My son who goes to college needs some counselling or life coaching to handle stress. He doesn't have any diagnosis of mental issues.
When I talked to a counselor about setting up sessions, he alarmed me. He said if you seek counselling, you will have permanent record. This may prevent certain type of jobs down the road.
Again, my son has no diagnosis. We just want him to seek some guidance to help him handle stress and emotions.
Last year, he went to see a counselor. We used employee assistance program (EAP). Does this mean he has a negative mark on his record, which may prevents him from getting certain type of job?

@rjtx I can see your concern despite you being proactive to help your son. The first thing that came to my mind is HIPAA. I've included a link to read up on what is or is not included from a counseling standpoint.

Honestly, I think if I were you, I would seek a second opinion or ask for clarification from that professional. Which direction do you feel you would be most comfortable?

From my experience, although not through an EAP, I have never had any job search issues in the 30+ years I've had in therapy. EAP usage is supposed to be anonymous. If it is not through his school, perhaps he meant as far as job placement through the career center? If his EAP is not anonymous, I would look into your insurance (if he's still covered) for therapy coverage.
