Cough every 10 minutes and after eating. Sound familiar?

I posted in lung health group but wanted to see if anyone here had a similar situation.

60 year old. Has a productive cough , one to three coughs, on a regular basis, like every 10 minutes or so, plus always after eating anything. It's a productive cough that feels good to do. Also blows nose frequently. This has been going on for several years but now seems to have become more frequent and deeper cough. Was a pack a day smoker for 7 years but that was 40 years ago when they were 20. Does anyone know what this could be?

Yes, I have had a chronic cough for the last five years and couldn’t find some help for that. Finally, I got a diagnosis of MAC, or NTM. It is a chronic bacterial infection in my lungs. People with COPD are more likely to contract it from many sources. If you do not have a Pulmonologist , you should get one and ask for a sputum test, but it can take months. I had mine diagnosed by bronchoscopy, which was able to extract some mucus, steep in my lungs and look at what was going on. It was easy. Now I have an infectious disease doctor up at OHSU. Also, you should look at videos on YouTube about doing air clearance. That should help you get some relief.

I should have said: I have COPD but when my cough changed, to being often and productive, especially after eating, that is when I knew something wasn’t right. First, The doctors thought it was bilateral pneumonia, but when it didn’t clear up with antibiotics and steroids, then they said no it was just scar tissue, it took me five years to get diagnosed with NTM or MAC. & bronchiectasis. I sincerely hope you do not have those things, but I would certainly look into it. I hope that your search to find answers will be successful.
