Cortisone injection 11 months after TKR? Did it help?

Posted by cindymattern @cindymattern, Aug 8, 2023

I sent my surgeon a message asking why my knee is still hurting so much at 11 months out. I can have PT or do exercises , mow the grass etc. and it hurts so bad. I feel like I should be getting better not the same. Yes, I am doing my exercises, riding my bike and stretching but I'm still hurting like I did at 3-4 months when I was dismissed from PT. Now I"m back in PT as my NP sent me. My feet hurt constantly on the tops and the bottoms burn (I take 900 gabapentin) as can't take Lyrica or Cymbalta though I felt great on them. Any suggestions or thoughts as I have no clue what they may suggest or he may just write me off. I really don't think I can do a revision after what I went through doing this last September or perhaps there is scar tissue that is forming in spite of all I'm doing.

May 2021 TKR. Going today for another epidural. Had blocks, burns, RFA. Do they work? Have to say the one he did on both sides of the spine, I was able to finally put full weight down. I get one of the above every 2, months. Exhausting. Bend is 125. I do go to the gym and such. Afraid of getting anymore. Before TKR I had laparoscopic surgery, lasted a year. But now I developed tachycardia and supposedly low cortisol from one doc , another said high cortisol. Going to third.

Still on meds about 7 mgs a day. Mostly at night and less in morning.

I must say my pain doc is much more intelligent than my cardio or any other. It’s hard today. Docs just don’t care.

Yes I would advise a epidural or RFA. Need to try something. Much of this can be emotional, we all went through he**! Never do it again. He does say revision would be devastating!!!! So many of us in the waiting room, scary. Many TKR!!!!

I had a hyaluronic acid injection on my knee about 4 months before my surgery. It only worked halfway I had a previous one done on the same knee and it worked wonderful. After a while the shots just stopped helping me. I had to get my tkr. I had a copay of $220 per injection. I have United Healthcare .

I too had cortisone shots and gel shots for years before finally getting TKR. Doing well 5.5 months out. The knee works good but issues with tigh it band lower back persist. More PT hoping time will work it out.

Need to start shots in left knee as it is now the week noisy one. Not looking forward to it I owning now the process is longer than previously believed.

I too have started cortisone injections in my non-surgical knee. I hope that I never have to have another tkr. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be. To have another one on my left knee is unthinkable at this point LOL
