Coronary calcium score

Posted by technician1 @technician1, Aug 9 5:06pm

I am a 67years old and two days ago I
did a CT scan of my heart for plaque
build up and my coronary calcium
score is 301.
My doctor's appointment is next two weeks and before I go is this alarming? 301?
Just wanted a comment on this.
Thanks in advance.

Concerning, since it's high, but your visit with your doctor should help you determine new actions* you may consider depending on how serious the score is for you as an individual, to address risks which may apply. (*if applicable, lifestyle/nutrition, medication)

If you search on Mayo clinic coronary calcium score, select a legitimate Mayo Clinic link, you should be able to see a good discussion of the score.

Best wishes

It's just a snapshot of what is present at the time of imaging. That's it. It tells little else. It signals that you may want to remedy the circumstances that have led to that amount of deposits, wherever they happen to be. Maybe you can change some things. Your cardiologist will advise you. Meanwhile, you need to be a lot higher, and have been for a long time, to consider panicking. Relax.

I also have an even higher calcium score (+450). My cardiologist told me that my score just let us know that I have significant calcium buildup in my arteries. Since there isn’t anyway to reduce the number, I have changed my lifestyle to prevent further buildup. It is what it is…so I am focusing on reducing stress and enjoying life !!
