Continued NED (no evidence of disease)

Posted by MommaCandy @mommacandy, 5 days ago

so just wanted to give everyone an update...i had a CT scan yesterday and still no evidence of disease same as the last CT on Oct 3. The only new thing they found (which apparently wasn't new but its gotten a bit bigger) was a blood clot in one of the blood vessels that used to go to my ovaries which aren't there anymore... so he put me on a blood thinner to try to dissolve that clot..
For those who don't remember or didn't know, the doc was VERY open minded when i asked him about going back on my vitamin regimen, clean diet thing i'd done after my thyroid cancer in 2013 (instead of the immunology drugs) and has fallen away from doing in the past few years because i was always on the road it felt like...anyways the CT showed the lymph nodes in the colorectal area that they had left were "stable or slighting decreasing in size" so doc was just like "whatever you're doing, keep doing it and come see me in 4 months"

That's awesome

Do your maintenance is life style changes that include food and exercise?

I just finished chemotherapy. I'm all in on diet and exercise.

Keep posting I want to know you outcomes. I'm so hoping making these changes will make the difference. My oncologist thinks hey will

@mommacandy I’ve been thinking about you. I’m so relieved to know your latest news. This is a huge reason to celebrate after all you’ve been through over the past year.

It’s wonderful that your doctor is open-minded and supports your lifestyle decisions to continue with your vitamin regimen and clean diet. Why argue with what’s working.

“Come back and see me in 4 months”. That’s such good news. Are you able to celebrate this along with the grief you are likely still feeling about losing your best friend?

Actually yes I am...so much has happened since right before Christmas...It was so hard to go to "the holler" which is where he lived on my family land because all i saw was his unfinished projects...but the weekend before Christmas we got another homeless person moved into his cabin (there's 2 cabins there) and on the land...And again it was someone we've known for YEARS...she used to babysit our kids when they were little (my baby is 32 so about 30 years) and we got a call from her telling us she didn't know what she was going to do, her mom wouldn't let her stay with her unless she got rid of all her dogs and she'd rather sleep in her car in the winter than do that.. which i totally understood because D was the same way about his cats lol...so lo and behold...she was willing to go off grid, rough it and live in the cabin there...and anyways... i know it sounds crazy but it was like that was healing for me too because i knew those things would eventually get finished if that makes sense... I was up there last week and omg its like a different place already...i have peace going back to the cabin again....but anyways my appetite came back full force right after we got her moved in...so I'm guessing the stress of all that was playing havoc on my appetite on top of everything else...but that's another rabbit trail to go down another time lol...
As for the vitamins and cleaner eating...I have gone back on my multi, and I've been doing essiac supplements and B17...of course I've not been able to tolerate anything with high fructose corn syrup in it since my thyroid removal, I've really cut back on the processed foods (we all know that stuff ain't good for us anyways) and actually back to cooking more now that I'm not on the road traveling 2-3 days a week...ironically i discovered the pawpaws that I'd frozen back in the fall because i was having to go to UVA about the time I'd been given an abundance of them taste just like fresh when thawed, (you know how some fruit goes mushy and just not great, well they are mushy to start with when i froze them) and they have great cancer fighting properties and I've already eaten almost all i had frozen lol...really gotta get some pawpaws growing in "the holler". I'm eating a LOT more assorted mushrooms when i can get to the winter farmers market...there's a farm that has them year around that changes with the seasons...right now I'm getting blue and golden oyster, and chestnut mushrooms mostly from them..I've done some lion's mane but not terribly thrilled with it, its ok but definitely not on my "favorite flavor list"...its gonna be nice when i can get back out foraging myself for them.. anyways from everything I've read both the oyster and chestnut mushrooms have high cancer fighting properties so maybe that's why I've been attracted to them...I've literally just been trying to listen to my body when it comes to food... I made fudge over Christmas ( I usually do it for gifts) and lord have mercy that might have been my undoing... I've gained 8 pounds since my appetite came back... everyone tells me my nonstop eating is because my body is healing but good grief...i kinda LIKED being the weight i was in high school lol... anyways... the mushrooms going back into my diet, back on more foods from my freezer (deer, pork that D and I butchered from a farm, beef from a friends farm, etc) and fruits and veggies i'd frozen or canned is definitely a good change from Burger King and Wendy's 🙂 unfortunately we're snowed in here so no winter market today..sounds like a good day for some homemade soup and corn bread (after bacon and eggs this morning of course, i really gotta get some more mushrooms though soon)

@denisestlouie, @shali2524 As i said in my response to @naturegirl5 my biggest change in diet is being able to cook again...after my thyroid cancer in 2013 i cleaned up my diet a lot (no HFCS, more farm fresh stuff, way less processed quick fix foods, way less fast food, etc)...and did good (no signs of cancer) til i was always on the road with D for his medical issues (basically beginning in 2022).. i was always eating fast foods that were "safe for me, ie no HFCS" but still fast food so loaded with other crap, and totally got off my vitamins and then i had the ovarian cancer show up..
my supplements are essiac, B17, (both of which are new after the ovarian cancer) multivitamin, and turmeric which i forgot to list in my response to her.. in the wintertime i also take D3...during "cold season" i usually add in elderberry.. which I've been doing since Christmas. Also have done LOTS of green tea in the past after the thyroid cancer but honestly i HATE that stuff...idc how much honey i put in it LOL
I've always grown a garden up til the last couple of years and put up the veggies and stuff and usually could find someone with fruits to give away that i could preserve, on the old family land we had plenty of berries etc. I would forage for mushrooms and other things, so i was used to cooking from "scratch" when my kids were little. After "empty nest" i had (and still do) struggled with cooking for just 2 people 😀 i can whip up a meal for 15-20 and never think twice but cooking for 2? whole new learning curve, so we started eating more "quick fix" processed frozen foods, especially after D got sick and i was traveling so much...anyways.. i realized i was going to HAVE to go back to what i called my "cancer fighting way of eating" if i was going to stay cancer free...and so...that's what happened...After I had gotten my first NED and he passed away, i started back cooking again...not everyday in the beginning...it was hard, i still had no energy and his passing left me in a MAJOR funk but I tried...and its gotten better and better as i got more energy.. i REFUSE to eat or drink anything that doesn't have REAL sugar, NO artificial sweeteners (aspartame, sucralose, even the more "natural" stevia or xylitol etc), Yes i know, they say cancer feeds on sugars but honestly i was a "mountain dew baby" as they called us and sorry, but i ain't giving up pop...now after my thyroidectomy i DID have to change to pop made with real sugar which in this neck of the woods is kinda hard to find so i don't drink as much as i used to (plus it's more expensive) but i did NOT cut out sweet things from my diet, i just typically make my own candy and cookies instead of buying them, especially now i'm "getting back to normal".. i've never been a coffee or tea drinker so pop is my "coffee". just because i had cancer doesn't mean i'm giving up all the good things i enjoy...
i still don't do a lot of "exercise" but i never did per se, most of my "exercise" was in foraging or whatever like that...hiking around looking for mushrooms or other edibles and in walking playing Pokemon Go.. if you haven't read some of my other posts feel free to go "get my story"...
i'll be more than happy to help answer anything else you want to know...just not sure what that would be 🙂

@shali2524 imo i don't think it matters, i do the supplements because i don't like tea in any form or fashion and i do the b17 supplements because i struggle with eating the seeds or nuts (i have "floating dentures" and nuts of any kind are REALLY hard to eat).. hubby eats the seeds. i don't think it really matters which way you go, i think its more of a what works for you...if you can do the seeds and the tea go for it.. gotta be cheaper to do that than the supplements if i had to guess, the essiac supplements at our local store are about $44 bottle for like a 10 day supply if taken as directed...

I assume you've read up on B17 and cyanide content. If not, check this out: "https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/b17-vitamin#side-effects"
As to eating well to prevent recurrence of cancer, I've ALWAYS eaten well--NO junk food or pre-prepared food etc., but I still got endometrial cancer.
I'm not saying go ahead eat what you want, but diet isn't THE answer. Why did I get cancer? The doctor doesn't know. I suspect it was caused by radiation to my pelvis 12 years ago for anal cancer, which was likely HVP-caused, though no one checked me for that, ever.
Supplements cost a lot, and although I also take them, am considering focusing more on whole foods., and staying away from anything that has estrogen in it. This includes supplemental quercetin, which my naturopath suggested I take.
We all must do our research.
