Constipation with continued stomach issues. What to do?
After feeling sick and nauseous for 2 weeks I went to me Dr. She did an xray and my system was fully backed up. Three days of magnesium citrate. Two weeks of miralax a few times a day and stool softeners. Now I've been advised to add Metamucil. I have had soft bowel movements, but it doesn't feel enough to clear out. I'm still having stomach discomfort and passing small amounts. I can't get into a GI Dr. Until March. I'm tired of being tired and sick.

I have chronic idiopathic constipation and a redundant colon. I’ve tried so many medications, herbs and Vibrant, a vibrating capsule that creates peristalsis. Nothing worked in the long term. Recently, my gastroenterologist prescribed Prucalopride. It has been working well for 2+ months. Fingers crossed!

1 Reactiontry senna tea with softeners
Why dont you try drinking a full bottle of kefir in a day? Do it for 3 days.
Alternatively eat carrots and yogurr for two days straight.
@peterose my God! That’s terrible to have to go thru. I hope you are okay finally

1 ReactionAsk the gastroenterologist when you get in to see one whether it would be worth testing you for SIBO. I think there is a dawning realization among gastroenterologists that conditions once diagnosed as IBS-C might be SIBO (Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth). It would be helpful to rule this out. But you probably need more imaging than just the x-ray to rule out other conditions, some of which may be structural. If your symptoms become more acute or if you develop a fever, I suggest getting to an emergency room.

@hopeseeker22 ...........NO......have narrowed intestine causing chronic constipation with hard stools!
Hello @peterose
I see that you have had surgery to remove a tumor and now have a narrowed intestinal track and chronic constipation. Constipation after any intestinal tract surgery is a real issue for many of us. I have had three surgeries of the upper digestive tract for a rare form of cancer, and I now have what my GI doctor calls "slow transit constipation." It is a real issue to keep the digestive tract moving after surgery as the landscape of the intestinal tract is changed.
I've found that some foods that are considered healthy (especially raw fruits and veggies) have a negative impact and result in pain, bloating, and exacerbate constipation. I also use OTC products to keep things moving. Some of which have worked for me are Calm (a magnesium supplement I use at bedtime). Magnesium relieves constipation and is a good sleep supplement. In addition, I've used a fiber supplement called Citrucel, which is like Metamucil; however, the fiber is less harsh, causing less pain and bloating. If those do not work, then I resort to a half-dose of Miralax in the evening. I have found that with a slow intestinal tract, everything needs to be taken in small portions, and you need to wait for it to work. Taking too much can result in diarehha which is not a good tradeoff.
I would also like to invite you to a discussion group on eating after digestive tract surgery. I'm sure you will learn a lot from reading others' posts, and you can probably add much to the discussion as well. Here is a link to that discussion group:

I look forward to hearing from you again. Will you continue to post?
