Can Benefiber be a good substitute for Miralax that was Prescribed to be taken daily? Can it be used while taking Miralax ? Mayo suggestions re daily schedule, diet, exercise all very helpful

@heyjoe415, @pwgrimes, and all...just a butt-in comment here...I had daily diarrhea for decades and now have constipation...IBD. Last year, in passing I mentioned this to a Mayo doctor who oversees outside-the-box care...acupuncture, massage, mindfulness, and such wonderful treatments. Never having dealt with constipation, I was lost as to what was best for me with my multiple issues.

He recommended a Probiotic Colon Support called Progulin, which I buy online from Research Verified. After taking this miracle supplement for 1 day, the diarrhea I was experiencing after taking antibiotics improved. I took a Lomotil and by the 2nd day with the supplement, it was gone.

Then, when constipation hit, I increased the supplement to 2 daily and added a 2nd colon support supplement. No longer do I struggle like most of you surely do as well. Now, without taking Miralax which the doctors suggested if this doesn't work, I'm regularly only slightly constipated and usually much improved, with neither extreme experience. More consistent, better in all ways. My weight is stable, I drink water throughout the day, and am feeling better.

When I take antibiotics, I take an extra supplement daily and if needed a Lomotil to ward off diarrhea, which I always have with antibiotics, or soon after taking them. By using this routine, approved by the doctor, I'm able to complete the antibiotic course with few issues.

The balancing of the 'biome' in my gut has improved my life tremendously. I highly recommend it if you haven't researched this area, it may be helpful. And, not all probiotics are the same! This particular one works for me. Previous brands I took, didn't. The doctor said they found the same results so he suggested it to me. I'm so thankful!

Be blessed and be well! elizabeth

Take Kayam churna tablets ( available at most Indian Grocery stores). Also Indian organic psyllium husk called "Sat Isabgul." Very effective. Of course the traditional cotton seed oil, also known as "Divel" or Castor oil is the father of relieving constipation. It tastes horrible though.

Are either FDA approved?

Good ole prune juice - heat it up in a glass.

Been an issue for me, for 20 or 25 years. Many problems. And was in the ER once with a diverticulitis attack. Almost had to have major colon surgery. So, I used prune juice, a senna formula (Ex-Lax is senna, but I use a different brand), Miralax (very helpful. It's a stool softener. Until I started using it, almost nothing worked). I also, you know, eat meals like bran muffins and yogurt, I eat a soft food diet often, I also use Metamucil. Sometimes coffee seems to help. Of course, plenty of hydration, abdominal exercises too...Anyway...a couple of things that have helped me.And I have used that wooden stool, that elevates your legs. Well, we actually have a plastic one called "Squatty Potty."have to get the height of it right. and if you have some problems with your knees or hips, can be an issue.the Squatty Potty has a truly hysterical ad, if anyone wants to check in with it. A bit gross, you know, re subject matter. But if the scatological humor doesn't bother you, it is worth a look: This Unicorn Changed the Way I Poop https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YbYWhdLO43Q

I am so sorry. In hindsight I had constipation issues going back to my 20s. I am 64. One thing I am looking at for myself is stress. I have ptsd. I am working more on stress management plus working on my diet.

My mother suffered all her life with constipation. She tried and did everything.

Are you getting plenty of exercise and fluids?
Besides diet these are 2 of the main things that help with digestion and constipation.
