Constant Wrist Pain for almost 2 years
I've been struggling with constant (no exaggeration) wrist pain, and I'm on the search for answers because I've stumped every doctor I've seen.
I don't have a specific injury, other than raising and twisting my daughter's legs when changing her diapers over and over a couple of years ago. Since it started, I've seen 2 hand specialists, 2 pain management specialists, an RA specialist who did a ton of blood tests, have had 3 MRI's (2 of the wrist and 1 of my neck), have had a ganglion nerve block, and multiple nerve tests.
Carpal Tunnel was ruled out (I had that surgery in 2018 and it didn't come back). The MRI showed a TFCC tear, so I had surgery earlier this year to repair that, but it didn't touch the constant pain.
Even after all the nerve tests that didn't show any issues, the hand specialist is convinced it's a nerve issue and is now putting me on a nerve med.
I'm an optimist and am trying to stay positive, but this process has been draining so I'm wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction on who or where I should go to get answers.
I'm in the Dallas area so there are lots of great doctors here I can get third and forth opinions from...I just don't want to waste more time and money.
TIA!

Interesting. I haven't heard of this, but will take it as a suggestion to my doctor. I have had 2 injections so far and neither did a thing except hurt like crazy. I've tried braces, so if that's supposed to help this condition, it may not be what it is. I appreciate the input tho and will bring it up.
Thank you!
BTW, thank you for the blessings and prayers. 🙂 We can never get enough of those.
I haven't had an updated wrist MRI since the TFCC surgery. I was in a 6 week cast afterwards and have worn braces both during the day and to bed, and have had Occupational Therapy. I haven't tried Voltaren gel, so I'll look into that.
Thank you.
I hope you get a proper diagnosis and find relief. DeQuerveins is characterized by a lot of pain when you fold your thumb across your hand and wrap your fingers around it. You will likely have a lump on your wrist which is warm to the touch, indicating inflammation. For some reason this condition wasn’t diagnosed by pain my management doctor or my general practitioner. When I asked specifically about DeQuerveins, both doctors said that was what I had. Be persistent, and good luck.
Hello there! I also had a TFCC tear after falling on my hand after carpal tunnel surgery. I had the extreme pain for over a year until a caring doctor suggested an MRI with contrast (wow, painful procedure!) and the test showed the tear. My pain management doctor sent me to about 3 different hand specialists, and all 3 said they would NOT touch it (too complicated?). My pain doc is relentless and found me the doc that fixed my hand, and the relief was wonderful! The only downside for you is that he works out of Newport Beach, CA. He has treated many professional athletes over the years, and just knows what he's doing! If so some reason you would be willing to come to California, let me know, and I'll give you his information! Good luck!!
A couple of things beyond what is mentioned above. I had gout. It appears like wrist pain. Take Tart Cherry Capsules by Zazzee on Amazon ($20). It stopped the pain after use. (along with stiffness!) after THIRTY YEARS. The second thing is that you can have microtears on connective tissue, which do not heal. The hands don't have a lot of muscle, and when you stress the wrists and hands (open envelopes, weed, wash dishes, type), you develop tears which don't heal as you age. You need to wear a brace to take the stress off and let the micro tears heal and recover. I have a brace when my wrists are not aligned with the keyboard. Oh, so easy to do, but stupid me rarely remembers, and then I get unbearable pain which does not go away until I put the wrist guard on. After thirty years, I know not to bend my wrists in backwards positions with my hands, so I get it very little. But after I figured out it was gout arthritis and asked my doctor to put me on Allopurinol for gout, I haven't had an incident. My hands and wrists are LOADED with OA! So the hand surgeon missed the gout entirely. Go figure.
I had serious pain in my wrist for a period of time. It was excruciating to even touch the area. When I finally got to the correct doctor, he immediately diagnosed it as a type of tendinitis. A minor surgery corrected it, and with far less recovery pain than the original pain. I’ve had no more trouble and that was several years ago. I hope you find your answer.
