Constant left and right flank pain

Posted by kellyb7 @kellyb7, Feb 9 8:29am

I had started having severe left flank pain about 5 days ago that kept getting worse leading me to see the ER and PCP. They ran urine and blood, only thing they found was slight blood in urine. I didn’t have a UTI but elevated Creatinine test slightly. They did a CT that found nothing, no Kinsey stones. I went home and rested and felt like it got a little better (but still constant soreness/discomfort) until I started feeling worsening pain on my right side that then felt like it’s in both sides now. What should I do next? Go the doctor again? I’m confused and unsure if I should just wait but it hurts to twist and move. I also have Lupus

---- I have attached an article for you. I hope you continue to seek help if the pain continues since it could be something serious.
----- I did find this under a search "Left flank pain refers to discomfort on the left side of the body, typically between the upper abdomen and the back. It can be caused by various issues, including kidney stones, infections, muscle strain, or problems with nearby organs, and may require medical evaluation if severe or persistent."
---- Be sure to get a copy of your medical information with the test results and keep on ongoing medical folder on these. This way, you may not need to suffer duplicate tests with other providers.
---- If from inflammation, try Zazzee Tart Cherry Pills.
---- Also, in the case of the pain coming from your back, try sleeping with a pillow between your legs if on your side, under your knees if on your back. You can also slightly raise the foot of your bed by putting something between the mattresses. Sometimes heat helps and sometimes ice packs help.

@kellyb7 Welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! It certainly doesn't make your day very comfortable, does it?

Several years ago I had very similar symptoms to what you described. As a chronic kidney disease patient, I went to my primary care doctor's office. Unfortunately he was on vacation, so an associate saw me. He claimed there was no such thing as a kidney infection. But that indeed is what it was. I was put on a strong antibiotic. On recheck, the infection was still there, my regular doctor was back, and he told me the course of antibiotics was correct but not enough time. So, he extended the course of them and everything cleared up.

I suggest drink plenty of water, and revisit your doctor.

@kellyb7 I'm with @gingerw on this. Many years ago I had symptoms in which the nurse practitioner insisted I had the flu (I had a fever by this time) or a UTI. I was treated with antibiotics but as soon as I finished the antibiotics the symptoms of fatigue, fever, and pain came raging back. I had a kidney infection. So, I agree with @gingerw. Your symptoms call out for seeing your doctor. I'd advise you to be persistent as something is not right and you know your body the best.
