Considering the Age and the fitness to treat the patient?

Secondary Hyperparathyroidism. Why do most or perhaps all of the doctors do not want to help with the elderly patients? What has changed? Is it not my choice to have the procedures and not be put off by my age as long as my fitness is acceptable? It seems that recently everything is now depending on the age and not considering the fitness of the patient. To me this is quite important and it is as though my rights are being taken away? Is this the new America? Respectfully, Barbara.

It is the old America, too. Sometimes it helps to have a internal medicine md instead of a pcp. Sometimes it's worse. If you sift through enough of them you'll find gold.

Barbara, with my parents care in the old America, ageism was painful, obstructive and common. We sifted through many physicians before finding the good (gold) ones. And my folks received excellent medical care.

You have better chance of successful surgery where the doctors repeatedly perform the same procedure. The Norman Parthyroid center is a good example of experience care. It is a good bet that you wouldn't be deprived of care on the basis of age there. But it is also unlikely that they would miss a tumor or otherwise give you inadequate care.
I wish you hadn't had the ageism experience. And pray it won't discourage you from seeking better care.
