Concussion messing with my voice.
6 months post concussion and it is still messing with my voice. When I get excited or anxious I sound like Forrest Gump. Frustrating! Very slowly getting past it but worried it may evolve into a permanent " dialect-sound" in my speech. Had and finished speech therapy. ER said I had a mild concussion back then and go home and wait 3 weeks to heal. A month later it was not better and I sought out a
Concussion doc. He was furious ER told me that. Had several symptoms lasting months. Balance regained. Walking ok. Memory better. Fatigue still there. Pronounceation better. Still have some trouble fi ding words and use descriptive phrases to define them instead. Getting upset at lack of education about severity of concussions I was given. So much they didn't tell me.
Just kept telling me "mild". At 6 months post- concussion i don't think mild is a good word! No, didn't lose consciousness. My quest is.... at this point will speech ever be normal again????
Thanks for any input!

I am 6 months out from my "mild" concussion as well and still have many symptoms: impulsiveness, mood swings, depression, dizziness and headaches as well as feeling exhausted much of the time. It is getting better but oh so slowly! I couldn't even get an appointment with a neurologist until next month ( a 5 month wait). That's super frustrating. Wishing all the best. Hang in there.
I've had 4 concussions in the past 10 years and I still have hoarseness when I get stressed. It comes and goes but no permanent damage. It depends on which part of your brain was affected by the concussion. If it was the lobe that controls speech then it will be more noticeable. Talk to your speech therapist about it.
Best of luck.
Dear @katy123
TBI… Concussion? Brain-Injury…
I’m a TBI Member that started 2012 and my life changed from a bicycle accident. My life changed like walking, talking, remembering, understanding : that loss 80% is gone. So my brain chances is within my brain but can’t use the outside change.
Thx,
