combination of cariprazine and alcohol

Posted by garrys @garrys, May 1 3:36pm

How deadly do you think it is to combine high doses of alcohol (like crawling up a wall) with 6 mg of cariprazine? I know these substances potentiate each other, but how? Does an alcoholic coma begin earlier, is it easier to achieve, or can breathing stop before a coma sets in? Or does cariprazine not pose a significant risk of death?

Hello @garrys,

It sounds as though you may be in a difficult place right now and we want you to know that the Connect Community is here for you. I also want you to know about the 988 Crisis Lifeline (https://988lifeline.org/) that you can call or text any time for immediate help. Please call them if you are feeling threatened by your feelings of self-harm.

Mixing alcohol and medications can be extremely dangerous. This is a question that should be discussed with your medical provider or a pharmacist. If you feel as though you may want to intentionally cause harm, please call the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (https://988lifeline.org/).

@garrys, is this a medication that has been prescribed to you? Have you been able to discuss the dangers with your provider?

Hang in there @garrys, please take your meds as prescribed and lay off the alcohol for the time being. Is there a specific issue that is bothering you with your meds or just in general?

It’s unknown from literature what the combination of the two will accomplish. They both provide a sedative effect and are warned not to be taken together. But you sound like you’re fishing for solution to an issue you have that we cannot provide you with an answer. You might consider talking with the person prescribing your meds or call a mental health help line or speak with a close friend or confident.

@garrys that may be true but probably not the best idea anyway. Is there something specific you are worried about? Are you struggling with substances as well as medications? This would be a good discussion with your provider if you need help managing multiple issues. And yes if you are looking for a way “out” I encourage you to please hang in there and seek help from your support network as soon as possible. Including but not limited to 988 helpline.
