Colonoscopy and Endoscopy: Preparation

Posted by suzanne2 @suzanne2, Jul 11, 2020

On Tuesday I have a endoscopy and colonoscopy scheduled at Mayo in Rochester. Looking for advice on the golytely prep. Not looking forward to it especially in a hotel room. Have to begin drinking at 6 p.m. Monday. I am having issues so not a routine exam! One that involves biopsy. Any advice to get me through the prep would be appreciated.

A friend who had a colonoscopy recently so regrets not buying some Tena's - as does her hubby😂 She recommends Tena knickers/pads, a change of clothes and a towel to sit on in the car.
I had to ph my local pharmacist this morning about the crappy new migraine tablets not working and asked him what he had in the Tena Lady range😂 After 12 years he just about knows me inside out so it wasn't difficult to chat with him about it. He's going to drop of some free samples, extra long ones, on his way home to the city tonight. He's such a thoughtful guy😃
See ya back here in Thursday😃

Hi. I suck on a lemon before drinking the prep. I make sure the prep is nice and cold.

I have had several Colonoscopies, I could manage the drinking prep part but the actual Colonoscopy is every time very painful. I am told they put sedation in the IV but I was everytime wide awake and the Biopsy one time was excruciating painful. Any help for that ? I dread the next one. I always mention it to the doc. beforehand but they reassure me that I will be fine.

That’s somewhat of an uncomfortable procedure. No reason to go through that. You should wake up in recovery and never know anything was ever done. (I’ve had 3) No question, time for a new GI Doc!

I find that it helps to use a straw and cover glass with Saran Wrap. Place the straw as far back in your mouth as you can.
That way you don’t smell and barely taste the liquid. Also have the liquid cold. Then just plan on sitting on toilet for the first half hour.
Helps to have book or iPad with you. I also put a towel on the bed sheet in case you have an accident later. The prep is the worse. Nothing
To the actual colonoscopy.

Does Mayo Clinic have only one type of bowel prep? I have had great success with the gatorade mirolax prep and it's very tolerable. I will refuse that big jug of crap! Anyone else have that one done? Maria.

Thanks for that. It's the only one I can tolerate. Maria.

Looking for opinions on the best prep? My doctor gave me the option of pills or two small containers of liquid. I dont recall their names.
