Collagen for osteoporosis?

Posted by cpb @cpb, Jul 26, 2021

My friend's medical doctor has her take collagen for her bones. I decided to try it and wondered if anyone knows more than I do about this.

Quick question about collagen in your coffee- the scoops are quite large and when I try putting it in my coffee, it doesn’t dissolve and ends up a clump floating on top. How are you putting it in your coffee?

Stir it thoroughly

@cpb i use Vital Proteins and it mixes really well in coffee, tea, or hot cocoa. Collagen was suggested to me by my chiropractor.

The brand I buy is Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides Powder with Hyaluronic Acid and Vitamin C, Unflavored. I get it at our local Costco store where it's a little cheaper than Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K6JUG4K

@johnbishop I have been using Great Lakes Collagen Peptides because it was specifically recommended by my health plan’s RN Health Coach a few years ago. How do you recommend comparing?

I am thoroughly confused by this "5 types" discussion. The reading I did stated there are 3 types of collagen -- Roman numerals I, II, and III -- which do different things in the body. Some are good for bones, another better for skin. Is there anyone out there with some expertise enlighten us??

@jlharsh I think they are both good. I started with the Great Lakes Collagen Peptides and switched to Vital Proteins after reading a few reviews.

In the products I've looked at, I only see mention of Types I through III. Do you know if there are products that contain all 5 types?

Here's one on Amazon but I've never tried it - https://www.amazon.com/Unflavored-Peak-Performance-Multi-Collagen-Hydrolyzed/dp/B078SD9ZY5

This article is an ad but does talk about their collagen products with all 5 types. The refer to it as multi collagen.
