Collagen for osteoporosis?

My friend's medical doctor has her take collagen for her bones. I decided to try it and wondered if anyone knows more than I do about this.

It's a little pricey but I figured my bones are worth it. 😊

I was taking fosamax for several years and I started researching more about it. I found an article that stated some research has been done and they found patients on collagen had better bone improvement than the fosamax patients. Only one article but I decided to switch. I have seen some improvement in my vertebrae scores but neck is now at an osteopenia level. I'm sticking with the collagen..

Dr McCormick. He is a chiropractor and has a book out or 2. I got it out of the library.

Drummergirl, I bought (and read) both of Dr. McCormack's books so I am not being disrespectful here. Just make sure you know that he is a chiropractor, not a medical doctor. It doesn't make any difference to me, but when I mentioned that to my MD, well the eyeballs rolled!

I’m on Evenity with no real side effects. Yesterday, my GP told me to start taking collagen. Can bone broth work for this?

Always good to hear from more health care officials on OP, so thanks for the reference. I want to be clear though, I wasn't downgrading Keith Mccormick's work. I think he knows what he is talking about but people should be prepared to address their health care providers' possible skepticism or disregard if the information comes from a chiropractor.

I'm taking a scoop of collagen every morning. In addition, since my CTX score is in the mid 600s, Dr. McCormick wants me to do a four month regimen of ultra low dose HRT patch, take 4 Osteostim pills/day, two Resveratrol Supreme/day, one scoop of Moss Electrolyte Blend, and one scoop of MineralWhey in addition to all the other supplements I am already taking. I can't even meet with a gyno until October 17th, so the HRT patch will have to wait (and that's if I even do it, which I am really nervous about).

I started the rest of the regimen Saturday and felt okay until several hours after dinner when I woke in the middle of the night being extremely nauseated. Long story short, I am only now getting back to feeling well enough to get out of bed for more than a few minutes. The issue appears to be too much magnesium too fast. All of my symptoms matched exactly to the information I found online about what high doses of magnesium can do to your system. Now, don't misunderstand. I suspect that, like other medications, the amount he recommended might be the ultimate therapeutic dose I need. I just think I will have to titrate up slowly to let my body get used to the new levels. If all this works to lower my CTX score, then I can table the idea of going on Reclast.

Thank you for the heads up re Magnesium. I have just started taking it and having some issues. Will cut back to once per week.

I was recently reading about this brand of collegen, thinking I might try it. I have Osteoporosis and I have annual Reclast infusions. December will be my 2nd one.
