Has anyone tried collagen for bone loss?

There is a thread on collagen. I think that one of the volunteers will direct you to it if you don't find it first.

I am trying it along with walking every day. I won’t know if it works until next February when medicare will pay for another bone scan. I’ll report then, and i really hope it does because I am very reluctant to take drugs.

Thank you! Same for me. Hoping someone will report who has taken it.

I'm considering taking collagen for my bone density along with trying to find a doctor to prescribe Evenity. My Rheumatologist won't prescribe due to black box warning. I do not have cardiac problems. I have terrible collapsing spine vertebrae from L2 to S1. Neurosurgeon won't do surgery until I take osteo med. I'm desperate and afraid of a fracture if not already hairline. Will collagen help until I get meds? I was offered Reclast but I don't think it will work as fast and I'm running out of time. Thanks

There are some studies that show modest improvement from taking collagen. The study linked below was sponsored by the collagen manufacturer, Gelita, and showed BMD increased a total of 5% to 8% over four years of treatment.

Also - has your rheumatologist considered putting you on either Tymlos or Forteo? Both can help you build bone.

I use Collagen Peptides daily. It’s good for many things and my primary doctor agreed and that I should continue. I’ve used it for a couple years. I started Evenity 2 months ago and have had no side effects other than large, hard lumps at the injection sites that resolve after 4 days. My PA said it’s a good sign that I am getting a response. Good luck 🍀

I’m newly diagnosed with osteoporosis. Am on risedronate (monthly dose). Read about collagen for osteoporosis in this support group. Please advise (a) which collagen brands are good and (b) can it be taken while on risedronate regimen? Thanks very much!

There is no problem taking it while taking meds.

Look for collagen peptides containing Fortibone. If you Google "collagen fortibone", you'll get what you need.
