Has anyone experienced colitis after chemo? What should we expect now?
My husband had his first chemo treatment (Keytruda, ironetecan, 5 FU) and 11 days later landed in the hospital with fever of unknown etiology. The doctors suspect an unidentified organism attacked his colon somehow. On Dec. 11 he will resume chemo. We shake and tremble. Should we expect worse, more of the same, or better with this next treatment? This will be no. 2 of 4.

Mine had to be discontinued after three. I flushed and my blood pressure crashed to 80s over 40s. And I felt like hell. They couldn't tell if it were a reaction to one of the two chemo drugs (probably the one ending in "platin") or my alpha gal allergy to mammal products reacting to the heparin lock in the port....

Thanks for the info. Are you doing better since all that was discontinued?

I believe @johnstawicki shared about his experience with ulcerative colitis after treatment for esophageal cancer.

@billnclaire47, how did your husband's treatment go last week? How are you both doing?

His treatment had to be postponed a week because after 10 days in the hospital he was too weak. He had his treatment this past Monday with a significantly lower dose. So far so good. He still can't swallow anything except his own saliva.
Still has excessive secretions, but lessened. He is so weak. My strong, capable farmer is shrinking before my eyes! And these holidays are isolating to him. Does anyone have tips on how to share a family meal with a person who can't safely eat? He has a good attitude, but I think Christmas is going to be rough. He can sit and watch us or go in the other room while we eat. 😞😓😩
