Colestipol for symptoms of IBS-D
Has anyone had any experience with talking colestipol for treating the recurring diarrhea that is part of the IBS-D syndrome? My gastro prescribed it and it does seem to minimize diarrhea if taken twice a day. I would appreciate hearing form anyone who has tried it.

Taking 2 colestipol made me constipated, so now I just take one at bedtime. When I wake up I usually go and sometimes it is loose and sometimes I really have to push. So it still seems I am all over the board, but certainly better than a year ago. Most days I usually have at least 2 BM's, but for some reason I still do not make morning appointments.
I just started taking it. Had my gall bladder removed a year ago and everything turned bad. So now trying to determine if my dirraha is from that or if I may have something else that is causing it. Not cool.
Sure hope you'll have some relief from this really soon. Have experienced prolonged diarreah too. It's very tiring & stressful. 4 months straight, a reaction to antibiotics. Ugh. Hang in there. All the best.
Hello everyone
I used to take Colestipol for 6 months. It helped my diarrhea but it made me more sick. Low energy. Insomnia indigestion Bad heartburn Wide awake all night and my sleeping schedule was all wacky. I found something that worked for me better. I have been using this supplements for over a year now. Digestive Enzymes I found it at Amazon. It work very well No side effects none what so ever. Just 1 to 2 tablets before you start a big meal like breakfast and dinner. With that I take high probiotics and when needed Metamucil to help you regulate. It’s a miracle. I had my gallbladder surgery over a year ego. I was a mess not able to go anywhere.
I had to be near a bathroom because of IBS-D. Digestive enzymes is a miracle supplements with extra help with the highest probiotic supplements. Also watch fat intake on your diet. You can eat everything but eliminate greasy and fat food.
Good luck I hope it works for you cuz it work for me. Natural path is good way to go.
2 years ago, I had to have my gallbladder removed & that changed my GI system for good. I learned to be very careful how much I would eat at one time; smaller meals really helped. I had to really watch the fats carefully & get more soluble fiber, like oatmeal, Etc. , not insoluble. That made things worse.
Last September, I got cdiff & ecoli. UGH! Went to 2 different GI Dr.s. After some very powerful & expensive antibiotics, started getting a bit better but the ever persistent diarrhea was uncomfortable & annoying. Plus, I now know how little nutrition I was absorbing from my healthy eating was being eliminated before I could benefit. Both GI’s called it post-infectious IBS-D. The first Dr put me on Colestipol. I only needed a small dose & hallelujah, it worked!! This last spring I was really sick, ended up in the hospital, & another bout of cdiff. Took awhile for things to get settled do we but so much inflammation in the gut! I have multiple autoimmune diseases so Prednisone for that had helped with inflammation but I take the Colestipol only as needed, maybe every other day, 1 tablet. What really helps me is sticking to an anti/inflammatory diet, no sugar, gluten, & dairy. A good probiotic to keep the good bacteria in balance. ChairYoga had helped with gentle breathing & relaxation.
Hope this is helpful. We are all very unique in how our bodies respond so I wish you well. Hope Colestipol can at least reduce your symptoms.
