Cold-sensitive teeth
I have noticed. that my teeth have become unusually sensitive to cold in a way that I've never experienced before, since starting prednisone. I have gone from 15 mg now down gradually to 10 mg so am hoping this will pass soon as it is very uncomfortable when having the occasional ice cream. Anyone else?

I totally understand. I thought it was something going on with my teeth…but no…I had my dentist check it out. I even have to brush my teeth with warm water. I’m at 7mg now. It might be getting a bit better, I’m glad to hear I am not the only one!
Thanks, glad to hear I am not freaking out by myself as I have never had sensitive teeth! Hopefully it will vanish as the dose goes down! Take care & have a great day!
When I started prednisone in 2011 and for several years I had sensitive teeth. I started using sensodyne toothpaste. It helped a little. I learned to deal with it. It went away when I was able to get below 7 to 8 mg/day.
Thanks for the info. I am looking forward to this episode being gone and done. Ice cream sends me through the ceiling. Can't live without it though!
Glad to see this post. You are definitely not alone. My dentist prescribed 1.1% flouride toothpaste and that helps somewhat. I am at 17.5 mg, (down from 60 mg), so encouraged to see that it will eventually go away, although probably a few months away. The good news is that an ice cream shake through a straw works pretty well!
Same. I started on 60 mg. of Prednisone in July 2024. My teeth sensitivity to cold didn't start until late winter/early spring. It's just my molars. I think I was down to 10 mg. a day. I'm at 5 mg. now and still have sensitivity to cold. I used sensitive teeth toothpaste for a while, but didn't notice any improvement.
I am going to stop by my dentist tomorrow. Many years ago I had one sensitive implant and he sold me some Colgate sensitive prescription toothpaste that cost around $14.
Oh thank you! I shall now have my good excuse to stop by the DQ! PS Don't tell my Dr. he is so against sugar anything.
Experiencing the same thing! Even Watermelon has to be room temp!!
Well, join the club! I did get one piece of great advice, as I am addicted to BR's Jamocha Almond Fudge, to make it into a milkshake and drink it through a straw! Whoopee! No touching teeth!
