Has anyone done this? How effective was/is it? Many thanks!

I’m so glad! I continue to improve. It’s crazy after everything I’ve done to heal, to have such a relatively passive approach help so much. This week I made the most strides as my Dr did cupping surrounding my knees. The next day I woke up and was significantly better. Couldn’t be happier!

@golfshrink - So glad its going well. My acupuncturist has used cupping before in the past with good success. We haven't done it since my surgery. And @timerdude - I'm not sure if I totally understood your comment. It sounded as if you were saying cupping is used by unskilled people. I can promise you that my acupuncturist is highly skilled and uses various techniques - including cupping. Sorry if your experience has not been as successful.

Sorry about the unskilled. Trust me everybody think they are experts. But cupping is good for some.., we are all different and might only hurt your body and age is a point to consider. The Mayo Clinic has a topic on this. Check it BEFORE trying the new “trends” Good Luck!

Hi @golfshrink - I was intrigued by your mention of the alternative therapies you are trying - especially acupuncture. I'm doing great with my extension & flexion but I would love to be able to reduce the discomfort and get off the pain meds. At 4 weeks out of surgery, I'm still taking 3 oxycodone per day. Can you tell me how often you are doing acupuncture and whether your can see a reduction in your pain level as a result? I have a great acupuncture therapist but I have not been to him since my surgery. Any tips appreciated!

I encourage you to get off the oxycodone as soon as you can. Trying dropping down to say 2.5 pills a day in week 1., then 2 pills each day in week two. One Pill per day week 3, 1/2 a pill a day in week 4. That might work and help your body and mind adjust until your pill free.

Hi @golfshrink - just wanted to update you... I started acupuncture on Tuesday. I think its really helping with the pain management. I believe I'll be totally off the oxycodone next week. And because the acupuncture reduces the swelling and increases circulation, I'm moving a lot better. Thanks for the encouragement!

Sorry I just saw this from March! Did the Acupuncture continue to help you with your pain and swelling? I’m still kicking around doing the laser treatment. I think there could actually be something wrong with one of my knees. It gets stuck. On the inside of my knee, it feels like something gets caught. I’m good once I’m walking but I’m dodging going to the doctor to find out because I’m not up for surgery...

I had total knee replacement over 5 yrs ago and am still suffering. I have developed so much scar tissue which causes me pain. I have seen 2 orthopedic specialists who have said surgery knee looks good but I have a lot of scar tissue. I have tried acupuncture, massage, PT and did not help. Deep tissue massage gave me relief for 2 weeks and I continue with appointments. I am looking into cold laser therapy. It helped my dog; the cold laser treatments healed her leg and she did not require surgery. Has anyone tried cold laser therapy for knee?

Hi new to group, ammaw52, my Dr. Wants to do a mua June 17 2022. I had tkr 4 months ago today. My rom is 105. Leg is not straight at all. I walk with left leg limping. He said he can not help with straightening leg. Thearpy was 4 months and did thearpy at home. No benefits left. Dr. Would not talk to me about any other way to break up scar tissue. My knee is very stiff. I was in the pool soon as Dr let me at 3months. Any suggestions to break up scar tissue other than mua? Thank You I am afraid it would get worse.

Hi Bunky,
Sounds like you and I have a similar situation. I had my right TKR 1/15/18. I have no mobility issues but my patella band hurts all the time. Multiple Ortho docs, injections and PT, nothing has given me any relief. I'm curious about your deep tissue massage. Who provides that service?
Please let me know if the cold laser therapy works.
Best of luck!
Cliff

Hi Cliff1950. Sorry to hear you are experiencing similar issues and I re patella band knee pain. I live in Tucson and use Meridian Massage and Cupping on Grant Road 520-229-7832. Youmi is great! Some wellness spas offer deep tissue massage and cupping as well. I will let you know how the cold laser treatments are going. But hope you try deep tissue massage also.
