Mayo Clinic Connect
Mayo has a twelve week cognitive behavior class designed to help people with chronic pain issues. The class meets once a week for an hour and a half. I will soon be starting this class and would welcome advice from other members !

Gosh it would be wonderful if Mayo Clinic could put a web version of this class online. A distance based learning tool could reach folks like me who don’t live close enough to attend these programs. I will be watching to see any tips that @lauriedr, @medic7054 and @dawn_giacabazi share of what they learned.

I also wish they would put it online as Its far away to travel when the money a big obstacle

I can no longer travel much over 15 miles due to physical pain.
My experience was amazing and trust me when I say, you will learn many life skills and other techniques to help manage your pain. No need to worry about sitting in one spot for very long because your day is filled with many appointments. Here is a link that will help explain.
Here is the link to the therapy group:
Here is the Pain Rehabilitation Center:
The primary goal of the Pain Rehabilitation Center is to restore functioning
and improve quality of life for persons suffering with chronic pain. The
program emphasizes the discontinuation of opioid medication for the
treatment of chronic non-cancer pain and the return to a fulfilling lifestyle.
Other important goals include:
• Return to regular daily activities
• Increase physical strength, stamina and flexibility
• Reduce use of pain medications
• Minimize pain behaviors
• Learn stress management techniques
• Return to gainful employment
• Resume leisure and recreational activities
• Improve interpersonal relationships
• Reduce reliance on health-care professionals, with improved ability to self-
manage chronic pain
The tools and coping techniques you learn will effect your everyday life for the remainder of your life. Really is a life changing experience. I highly recommend for anyone who is dealing with pain that effects your activities of daily living.
I have learned that if something sounds too good to be true…
CBT is helpful with some pain. It can only do so much for structural maladies. Returning to work or even everyday activities is not a possibility even with CBT.
I see the list as misleading. I do not use opioids or rely on medications for pain.
This pain robs us of what we want to do.I,M sorry about the traveling I can’t either ,today I’m on the couch ,nothing is helping .
@lioness It is said misery loves company. You are not alone. I am wireless now-still clueless though.
Hmmmm-CBT for pain. I need to find out if there are any such groups in my neck of the country. It has helped with depression at times. I am thankful the dark cloud has lifted some today. So many things I enjoy doing. I endeavor to focus on the things I can do.
I’m glad you’re having a better day today.
I would like to invite members @dawn_giacabazi, @lynettegable, @medic7054, and @lauriedr, who have discussed going through the pain rehabilitation center at Mayo Clinic, which includes cognitive behaviors for chronic pain. They can share their experience in the pain rehabilitation program.
@AlwaysHopeful, would you mind telling the other members a bit more about what the cognitive behavior class is and offers as you prepare to take the 12 week course?
Hello, I went through the Pain rehab Clinic in July of 2017. I would check into locations for this. I think Mayo, Rochester Mn has the only class like this. Don't take my word for it but I think thats right.
Has anyone gone thru the 3 week pain mangement treatment at Mayo Clinic in Fl, and if so , how do you feel about it ?? I’ve been told I have CRPS, after bilateral knee replacements, but no specific testing has been done for this. Was there an evaluation , before treatment ??
Hello @rmeddings, I moved your discussion and combined it with an existing discussion called "Cognitive behavior class." If you are replying by email, I suggest clicking on VIEW & REPLY so that it will bring you to the discussion. I moved your topic to this discussion so you could read through the older posts and meet the members already discussing the cognitive behavior class for chronic pain at Mayo Clinic.
@lioness71 I would certainly love to have a online class online itwould be beneficial to us who can't get to a Mayo clinic.
