I am a senior almost 86 years old.I’m an avid golfer and I’m physically active but I’ve been dealing with tinnitus for about 5 years now and I don’t hear very good from my right ear.Since the beginning of June the sounds I’ve been experiencing have gotten much louder and frequently! It is getting so bad that I’m not getting much sleep. My Doctor prescribed Lexapro but it doesn’t help!
Please give me a little break! Please!

For years doctors had no idea why we have tinnitus. They would speculate but no one ever seemed to have a definitive cause. Now they think tinnitus is actually our brain making noise when we’ve lost hearing.
I started getting tinnitus after I lost some all hearing on my right ear as a result of chronic outer ear infections (plus I have scar tissue from inner ear infections as a child). Honestly, the only thing that I’ve found to make it “better” is background noise.
I like music or TV, they help. I’ve done a little of my own research and there is, again, speculation that anti-inflammatories make it worse. This seems to be the case with me as I take ibuprofen for chronic pain and the tinnitus is louder in the evening. This also could just be that it gets louder from, say, clenching my jaw. (I am a grinder & clencher.)
My doctor doesn’t know if hearing aids will help. She has suggested I go to an audiologist. I just need to save up a bit of money since I don’t have insurance. It might not be worth spending the money on hearing aids, even the discount ones, if they won’t correct my hearing or lessen the tinnitus noise.
Good luck. There are times when it drives me nearly crazy and times when I don’t notice it. The hardest part is hearing conversations and not getting distracted by the noise in my head.

Are you seeing a ENT specialist? If not suggest you find a experienced ENT to diagnose the cause and go over treatments.

I can see from your post this medical condition is also causing your mental stress and anxiety. Your mental health is just as important as physical health. Each one affects the other.

Do you have a major medical facility close to where you live that your insurance will cover? If you are in doubt to expertise of your doctors would look at a major medical facility. Again are you seeing a ENT or just a PCP?
